Hi All,
I have a 1.2, 8v, Grande Punto and im going to fit a Towbar tomorrow, regarding the wiring side, do i need a relay?
All its for is a trailer board for my inflatable dinghy trailer!

I keep hearing mixed things like...

you dont need a relay just for a trailer board
you dont need a relay on your car if it doesnt have a bulb failure device...
or relays only needed for things needing more power

Helppppppppp..... !!!

Any suggestions would be apreicated.

Thanks
Richard

there is a guide by Andy Monty (I think) that I would suggest following. I wouldn't say it's strictly necessary to have a relay. but it may trigger the bulb warning system. also too much load melts wires ;) I would use one of the 7 way bypass relay things in the guide if I were to do it (y)

Hi Andy,
Regarding 'GP Active's dont have the boot mounted fuse board regardless of spec level you need a nice constant juicy supply from somewhere not a switched feed from the ignition as you wont be able to leave your hazards on for example with the keys removed ..

On the higher spec levels it should be possible to take a feed from the boot mounted fuse board however on mine it was taken from the front glove box fuse board supply tail. But could also be taken off the battery and run through the grommet under the front scuttle panel on the passengers side (uk)/

Is there any where nearer to the boat i can pick up a supply to power the relay, i'm not worried about not having a live supply when the inigtion is off.

Thanks for your help.
Richard
