Afternoon all

I've been driving a 1.4 8v GP on an 09 plate for a while now and am more than happy with it, Anyway the first year is up and it's time for it's first service.
Upon calling the dealer he wants to charge me £195 for a low mileage service. He was quite cagey when i asked for a description but it turns out to be an oil change and 'visual' inspection.
It's only got 6500 on the clock most of which are short journeys so i figure it could probably do with a more detailed service.
Now a family member is a VAT registered mechanic and has agreed to do the service for a 'drink', My instructions are to buy the parts and turn up on time.

I understand parts need to be OE but what about Oil and Plugs, For the price of Selenia i could get an equal quality or better from somewhere other than fiat parts dept but would it affect the warranty? And fiat recommend NGK plugs and 7.22 each, Can i not just buy them somewhere else for cheaper and still be within warranty?

For the service,
Oil & Filter
Air Filter
Spark Plugs
Anything else that could do with changing while he's at it?

Any help appreciated

Nick

Look at www.shop4parts.co.uk they should be able to sell you most parts considerably cheaper than Fiat. Also re oil. As long as the oil and spark plugs are similar to Fiat specifications there shouldn't be a problem using other brands.
If you have air con don't forget to change the pollen filter it gets rotten over a year and don't forget to get the service book stamped and keep all receipts.

You can go to Arnold Clark and have them do a Grande Punto Owner's Club service for £95.

I dont understand the lets spend £8k on a car and them fit cheaper parts to it:confused:

As raphjd said £95 is cheap and steer clear of low mileage services(y)

(p.s. read the other GP service threads)

Got my TJet booked into Wentane for the 12th.
£125 to service at 5K miles

It must be about £40 for the oil and filters...

So the extra £80 gets me a couple of hours in Stockton Modeller while the car is done.

Iv just had my first service done on my T-Jet and I was told that you can only have one low mileage service in 2 years, and I was advised to save it for the second year as it would be £465 due to the valves being checked but as the manual says this is to be done at 36,000 and you have to below 18,000 I thought it would be alright to get one then.

Valves checked?

Thanks for all the information, I've had the service done now and ended up getting a deal on the parts at the local Fiat Dealer anyway.
I never intended to fit 'cheaper' parts to the car at all i just didn't want to pay the main dealer nearly £200 for what amounted to a basic oil and filter change!!!!
For around £130 i managed to get original Fiat Oil, Filter, Plugs and Air filter, all fitted, car serviced and book stamped. In my book thats not a bad days work.
Once again thanks for the help.

Nick

Anyway your happy and thats all that matters......you still got those dodgy shooters?
