hey all..... I am going to be in receipt of a company car in the near future, so my GPS is going to be turned into a weekend playing.....

as its done 98,000 miles on the original turbo, I'm thinking of a hybrid or the turbo from the 150bhp bravo (which I beleive will map to just over 200bhp) ...

I've tried the obvious turbo techniks for a hybrid, they dont do it.....

Q's:

1) Anyone know where I can get a hybrid from?
2) anyone fitted the bigger turbo from the bravo, and how hard is this to do?

Thanks in advance :D

Think it might be quite involved to fit the Bravo turbo, this is from the top of my head-

1. GP 1.9 is 8v engine, Bravo 150 is 16v engine- port design/spacing may be different.
2. Gp turbo is a one-piece unit complete with the manifold, Bravo is like a normal turbo.
3. GP turbo inlet is from the cambelt side (O/S of engine bay), Bravo inlet is from gearbox side (N/S)
4. Map power figures (200+) for the Bravo turbo are helped by it being a 16v.

Turbo Technics told me they do a hybrid turbo for the 1.9 mjet?

I will call again as I interested. There are two versions apparently, the second they reckon with a remap will do 250bhp.

Not sure how the rest of the car will cope, so I would proably keep it to 220.

Interested to hear of any turbo options especially cheaper than 2400 Euro. Please keep us informed

indeed, I think I saw your post, which is why I contacted them, got this reply...

I AM SORRY BUT WE DO NOT OFFER A HYBRID FOR YOUR FIAT. WE ONLY HAVE ONE FOR THE 1.4L PUNTO GT.

so no good......

seeing as the bravo turbo is probably a no go, Any other suggestions for a company selling hybrids for the 1.9 m/jet? Thanks in advance.

Can the 16v head be fitted to the 8v?

Should do, but it's not a feasible mod (would need so many parts swapped over from a 16v JTD, including pistons) that it just would be simpler to fit the complete 16v lump, and even then there's more things outside of the engine to sort.

That ebay ad- turbo looked far from "new", plus they don't come fitted with the oil feed/drain pipes out of the box. ;)

they have are quite well known on vw and skoda tdi forums.
i recently inquired for uprated on my stilo prices were reasonable they offered new modified turbo or your turbo modified.

sent them an e-mail to enquire (y)

apparently its too hard to fit the bravo turbo as its completely different, the punto one comes complete with manifold. So still wanting a hybrid. can't beleive no-one on here has done it! on briskoda there are pleanty of 200+bhp fabia's running hybrids, I can only find one company so far who will do it, but they have blown up a few VXR's with hybrids, and are not recommended on the VXR forums, so I'm steering well clear of them.....

why not just get a manifold made up, then you can bolt what ever turbo you like to it?

Speak to red dot as the chap that works there has a gp running 218hp with a hybrid turbo it costs £400 to turn your standard turbo in to a hybrid he told me thats my next investment.

That's not a bad 400quid if it pushes out 220 break! Wounder what tourque he's running?

Would anything else need updating like clutch or engine internals?

i think it blew up before the hybrid turbo, gonna try and get some more inmfo from reddot!

dont think a new/different turbo is worthy, hybrid seems the only choice.

anyone got any views

well , after some serious research, I found only 2 companies willing to build one for me, one I wont touch, as they are seriously slagged off on the VXR forums for blowing up vauxhalls with hybrids, the second turbo dynamics, good respectable company, they dont have one off the shelf, but said they would build me a bespoke one for £1000.... but then I would have to have it fitted, then custom mapped..... may be a bit too expensive for me :(
