Hi all,

I've been reading the guides and searching; I've just bought some LED daytime running lights, and had a few questions. Someone mentioned in the FF Guide https://www.fiatforum.com/grande-punto-guides/141618-led-day-running-lights.html and mentions in the comments that they have to come on with the side lights. Is this true? As the new Mercedes don't come on with side lights (I don't think) ?..

And also where should I wire them up to, does the size of fuze in circuit matter?

Thats because on new stuff they are instead of them. On yours they are in addition to them. If you didnt want them to come on with the sidelights then you would have to wire them in to a separate switch or take your sidelight bulbs out.

if you want them to run from the moment you put the ignition on i'd go into the RED wire that powers the cig lighter or with side lights onto the yellow wire almost as wired like the fog light wiring diagram but without the switch so they are always on obviously a switch will give the option to turn them off but its upto you

i would relay them so its isolated from teh cars electrical system to be on the safe side yes its a bit more work you wont have to use wiring quiet as heavy as what is needed for fog lamps and obviously use a smaller appropriate fuse (y)

you could wire them into the side light housing under the bonnet pretty close to th headlight unit, use a multi meter and find which wire is live when only the sidelights are on, take that as your positive feed for the DRL's then find a ground, may aswell use the sidelight ground wire whilst your in that bunch

EDIT or what Andy said, I'm a slow typer, he posted after I started writing haha

no need plenty of earth points in the engine bay ;)

Lol Andy, that diagram sums up why I gave up the Electronics course at college 2 years ago; I've not a clue which is what..!

Also, how do I get the the cigarette lighter wire, I can't pull the damn thing out?

oh dear and your still going to try and wire them in yourself

pull the gear box gaitor off at the bottom (y)

in all seriousness if your not happy doing the wiring from that diagram i'd pay an auto electrician to do it incorrect or bad wiring can be a serious fire hazard best to play it safe

Well I was going to say just use any earth point but I haven't read up on how the "check running light" system works so I thought best to play it safe and use the corresponding earth :)

by putting extra load on your probably going to trigger it anyway hence the best option is to relay it as the Relay only has a tiny load and is not detected by the bulb failure monitoring :)

Lol you'd probably have a heart attack if you saw the things I've wired in my car!.. and in my house for that matter haha!

I'll get my uncle to have a look as he's an electrician

Cheers guys
