What grande punto have you got (engine wise)

I wouldn't have expected it to fail at such low mileage

Replacing the water pump is quiet a time consuming job labour wise as the cam belt has to come off which means taking the engine bay to bits, along with the cooling system drained then refilled

(might as well get the cam belt changed at the same time any decent garage should only charge you for the belt and tensioner as they have to take the old one off anyway to change the pump)

try contacting fiat customer services in the first instance and see if they will offer you any goodwill payment it can sometimes pay to be a bit cheeky ;) (need some help section) here : http://www.fiat.co.uk/content/?id=3046

I'd get a second opinion, mine is 3 years old and has covered 97,000 miles, and my water pump is fine, has it been loosing water? is there water in the oil? if not you may be being ripped off.....
