Hi,

I have a 2006 Grande Punto 1.4 Active model. For the past couple of months there has been an intermittent fault causing the vehicle to stall.

Every time I have to stop the car stalls. I have tried flooring the clutch well in advance of stopping to no avail. If I try to carry on driving the fault develops to stalling when I take my foot off the gas to change gear.

I have taken the car to two different garages. The first cleaned the fuel lines and filters, it worked ok for about 6 weeks and then started playing up again. I then took it to a Fiat dealership who ran a full diagnostic and couldn't find any issues. They reprogrammed the throttle body and said they can only think this is the cause. Their suggestion was to replace the throttle body if the fault recurred, which it has, but they can't guarantee it'll fix the problem.

Does anyone know if this is a known fault with the Punto and whether replacing the throttle body would be a reasonable action? I purchased an extended warranty with the vehicle. I have to pay for the work and then claim back from Motorpoint so don't want to be getting tons of work done if it doesn't address the issue.

Any help or advice would be most appreciated.

Hi,

Take a look at the air temp sensor on the inlet manifold. Sometimes cleaning this up will solve the problem, sometimes it may need replacing.

Try a search on here theres a great guide on what to do :)

Hi Chris, thanks for the suggestion. I have to admit to being the most non-technical person on the planet when it comes to manual work! How much would it normally cost to have this replaced at a garage?

That's fab. Will phone the garage and see when they can fit me in. Will let you know if it works!
