On servicing my 06 Sporting JTD at 62k miles I asked the garage to advise why awas the engine was so noisy, suspecting tappets or injectors. Garage duly inspected the vehicle and traces the clatter to the air conditioning system; once the air con is on, the car sounds a lot quieter. Garage advised failing air con bearings, suggested I replace the air con compressor, total cost approximately £820! Thankfully, I bought a policy with warranty direct and they agreed to replacing the compressor, now I am waiting for the part to arrive at the dealer. Has anyone here had a similar experience with their air conditioning?

Yep - I have the same. Need to call Warranty Direct! Gets bloody noisy, don't it!

Please forgive me for hi-jacking this thread but are Warranty-Direct any good as I'm considering them for my 1.9 GPS.

Any good or bad stories?

Also how does the 'inspection' go? Does it take long/ really detailed?

Thanks in advance.

Search for Warranty Direct. A few threads on them, some of which I have contributed to.

I haven't had any problems - they replaced my alternator a couple of weeks after policy commencement. They were even helpful (although one of the staff I got through to a couple of times was a bit of a misery lol).

They also don't inspect your car before offering a policy either. They just reserve the right to carry out an inspection before an agreed repair is carried out. They just paid out for my repair without wanting to check out the car.

Thanks for the info, they do seem like a decent company :)

I'll be joining them as soon as I get paid this month lol
I think I'll be going for the 'Extracare' package just for peace of mind

That's the one I've got... I think lol. One further piece of advice though. Don't go with the first quote. Get one on the internet and wait for the call back. They will do this, and endlessly, until they get to speak with you. They normally offer a special deal without you even asking. You just go from there.

They're usually willing to offer you good discounts this way. I got like 15 quid a month off mine, plus an additional level of cover for fuel and emissions parts failures for free. Think that covers stuff like the cat, DPF, etc.

Back to the air con, had the same issue with my car, problem was traced to the air con tensioner, which is a hell of a lot cheaper than £820!

Hope this helps!
