Sorry if its posted already but I can't find anything so I thought I'd give it a go.

I want to fit my GP T-Jet with a cruise control system. I asked at my dealer they said it's "probably" doable but did not seem too confident. All I could get from them was the part number: 735471939

Here in Greece it's a bit expensive e190 as it's shipped from Italy.

So I got 2 questions:

1) Can I retrofit fiat's cruise control?
2) If yes any ideas how I can order one from abroad to get it cheaper? (any ideas where I can get original fiat parts from?)

And a final one (I should probably ask my dealer tho) if I do retrofit it, will this void the guarantee????

I beleive someone on here tried it, and it didn't work as the body computer needed replacing too.

Several people have retro fitted cruise control on the Stilo, but I've not seen it done on the GP.

735471939 is the part number for the switch if you have a rear wiper. UK price for it is £125 (GBP) including UK VAT (FPA).

If you don't have a rear wiper, the part number for the switch is 735445041. UK price for it is £114 (GBP) incl. VAT.

Hmm thanks for the info guys. So I'm guessing I should talk to fiat to see whether my car can be retrofitted the unit without replacing the car's computer if so I'll start looking for the unit.

Anyone knows if retrofitting can void the guarantee ??

Frankly, as someone who has the cruise control fitted to my GP sporting, it's not an option I would pay for.

On the wide open spaces in Texas I'm sure it's great to flick the switch and cruise for hours on end.

Anywhere in Europe it's a total waste of time. There's always some reason you need to ease off the accelerator just a tad and there's no way to do that without disengaging the cruise control (eg brake, clutch, turning it off entirely).

I try and use it just because I have it installed and I get maybe 3 minutes per day of use.

Total waste of time! I'd much rather they had included the rain sensor for which I paid £80 as an optional extra and is MUCH more useful here in rainy UK!

i found mine to be superb. sit at a set speed on the motorways, get the best fuel economy, no worries about speed cameras... wouldnt be without it.

I retrofitted the cruise control unit and replaced the body computer and it still did not work sorry.

Not sure there is anything else to be done, unless some one else has any ideas?

Oh for the Stilo plug and play!

Yes there is, theres two sitches on the cruise control stalk one on/off switch and one speed up/down switch, either with a +/- symbol or a up/down arrow, simply flick the speed switch down and the speed goes down 1mph for everytime you flick it. And opposite to get the speed back up again.

That's what most people say however purely on financial reasons I would think GPs with cruise control and GPs without would not have great differences to their electronic components - it is cheaper to make one control unit and add (or not) the cruise control on it than to have separate systems ... basically this is why I think there must be a way to install it!

I am going to call Fiat tomorrow to see what I can get from them - to be honest though I want the cruise control but im not that bothered either I just want to get the mystery solved

Mine was all dealer fitted and I know they spoke to Fiat UK about it.

Most of them (particularly series 1 GPs) were made without cruise control though. So it would be cheaper to omit the necessary equipment and charge a little more for the optional extra.

Like the Stilo, some Astras are plug in and play. There was a fiddle on some, in that people would buy and fit the necessary stalk, then tell the garage that it wasn't activated. Garage flicks the switch, et voila - cheapo cruise control.

I have to say that cruise control is the one toy I miss having - had it on both my Focus and Astra and it is really useful.

There are aftermarket systems that can interface over the can bus but last time i looked they were around £300 and looks somewhat naff as the controls were not oem.

Hey guys, after doing some research i ended up with this:

You CAN retrofit a cruise control unit on a GP. However, OEM part requires installation of new wiring because it links with the brakes and the ABS.

On the other hand, I was told some after market units are plug and play and require less work to install. I don't really understand why but in any case installing the original part on a GP is doable but very expensive.

Some other mechanics I asked told me that it's not possible at all - but this seems highly unlikely ...

Any ideas??

If you can find a plug and play kit i dont see why it can't be done, i suppose all you need is wires coming from the throttle position sensor and the brake position sensor, and probably some form of seperate control box.

for cruise to work if it can be fitted ...the ecu would have to see the brake being pressed and the clutch ,as they both have to disengage cruise ...so i would imagine some sort of switch would have to be fitted to the clutch pedal .otherwise if you pressed the clutch in cruise your revs would rise rapidly.also on trucks which i do the handbrake is also included ,problem being if the handbrake warning light stays on due to a fault ..no cruise..though don't really see point of handbrake in the system

within this process opens the screen to reveal several pages in which all electronic devices enabled and not in bodycomputer, eg,
Hill Holder device Present
Abs
Rain Sensor Not Present
Fog Device Not Present
Cruise Control Device Not Present

Change Cruise control to enabled

I understand some models require a cable to connect from stalk pin 8 to pin 41 body computer to activate dashboard led.

I also understand that this leonardo software is able perform this where as the fiat examiner cannot perform these actions.

we just need someone to be the first to make this happen and of course you have to find locally a garage with this kit.

I will talk to my friendly Fiat garage and see if they have this or whether they have any other means of activating the CC.

Like i said i am led to believe fiat cannot access this function.
Worth a try though.
