I have a 2006 Grande Punto sporting with 29,000 miles on the clock from new, approx 18mths ago i had both front springs replaced as they both snapped, low and behold 18mths later and they have both snapped again?????.:bang:
I contacted my dealership today Desira and was told your car is out of warranty so they are not covered..i explained that they were only changed 18mths ago and springs should last alot longer than 18mths.
Well you guessed it no joy from then, so contacted Fiat Uk waste of a phonecall :confused:.I was told by them that they are not aware of any problems with springs??? i find this difficult to believe as it the second time for mine.

Thanks Desira and Thank you Fiat UK - For doing nothing.

I thought only one broke last time and the Dealer/Fiat replaced the other at the same time FOC as a goodwill gesture?

Well my springs have now been replaced under warranty, and all again appears well.:):)
An excellent job by the Techs at the garage and all done very quick (y)(y)spot on

Apparently the second spring wasn't broken on the front but exchanged as a gesture of goodwill :confused:.
Just thought i must clarify that, despite wot i was told on the phone.

And didn't you say you were getting rid of it before? You may have mentioned it once or twice...

Listen mate had that much go wrong with this car since 2006 , ive just checked my posts and yes it was only one that had snapped and the other replaced as a precaution, does that mean 18mths later they should fail again ? i think not.

cant get warranty on warranty and Fiat is a freephone number.....time to dig deep and buy some springs.

I'm getting rid ...........Fiat UK is crap....never even read the letter i sent them.

1.9 Sporting .
Going to have this one reconditioned and then get rid.......(n)

Well i guess i will be selling my GP Sporting

:slayer:Drive the CORSA SRI,and you will guess why i have changed mine.....

I was telling another member about this on another tread. My car has had both of the front springs replaced luckly i didn't pay for it because the bloke who had it before me had that pleasure. He told me that first the drivers side snapped and then the passenger about 2 weeks later.

Aparantly this is a commom problem with fiat springs because they make them out of a certain % recycled metal and that puts flaws and weaknes into the springs. My springs where replaced with after market same spec springs to nip the problem in the bud perminantly other wise they could go again.

I dont often agree with T but he's right.... :p Infact i'am going to give him my car and motorbike for nothing.

I had 2 new springs on mine a few weeks back, half a coil snapped on the passenger side, thing is it cost me only £140 to buy new springs & have them fitted, its no big deal... and the guy who fitted them told me all makes are having this happen,

Its the fact manufacturers are fitting lighter springs, its the fact the roads are sh*t with potholes everywhere, and its made worse by "traffic calming" measures....

Get over it and fit some decent springs, I'll bet OE springs will last about 50,000 miles / 3 years.

:yeahthat:

Renault Megane Scenic, Mercedes E Class estate, VW Golf. These are the ones I know of personally.

In the case of the Renault the driver does rather go at the speed bumps - by which I mean she doesn't really slow much and lets the suspension cope with the road: the heat reflector over the silencer came loose recently too. But all cars are affected. Some say that Japanese ones have better coils, but I don't know.

However, our roads are third world, and rather than build them properly they spend the money on bumps, so that we are crashing up and down all the bl**dy time. This is not what European cars were designed for. On the continent roads tend to be far better.

and dont forget the road salt/grit...if it damages our roads like they say it does its not exactly good for our cars.

Indi MOT place had failed 16 cars in a week on broken springs alone

i stated recently the increase in suspension problems over the last few years with the amount of speed ramps/poor roads? and with the recent cold winter it seems there has been a increase in broken springs. There was a time diagnostic and service work was the main income but these days its knocks and suspension work...must be something in it?

I read somewhere that Fiat have a section of test track designed to replicate rougher UK roads, but after a drive around over here a Fiat engineer said they'll have to dig it up as it's not bad enough, lol.
