I brought a standard 130 gp mjet and althought i wouldn't say its slow i just fancy a bit more power. But before i go ahead and get it done i would like to know if any members have had any horror storys from getting there gps remapped ?

Admittedly this wasn't on a gp but i have heard that on some cars when they have been mapped that the gear boxes give out soon after having it done and also that the clutch starts to slip due to the extra power.

Any help would be apresheated

You cant compare what happens to one car after a remap to another tbh. No one has really had any problems. Few turbos went but that was from a dodgy batch that Fiat fitted.

theres been quite a few a clutchs and dualmass flywheels gone aswell, can think of jamiez and puntopo at the top of my head but there was a thread and a few other confirmed the same! Which is costly at around £1-1.2k

again each car is different and it comes down to the driver aswell

A lot of turbo's have gone bang too...must have been one hell of a large batch of dodgy Garrett turbo chargers! :)

For the record mines has been mapped for 27 months and 20k miles...no problems at all so far. Running a mildish 178bhp with an Angel remap.

The clutch is what i am really worryed about, the car has already covered 33k so the clutch will have some wear already.

would it be work haveing it only mapped to say 150 bhp to keep the pressure off the clutch ?

Clutch is fine. Mines on 61,000 miles now, not a whiff of any trouble from it. Sharkrider on here has over 94,000 miles. I believe thats still the original clutch :)

Also depends how you drive it, if your going to give it full throttle starts off the traffic lights, it'l obviously burn out faster

Mate, it depends how you drive, I could go through a clutch with a standard map in a few thousand miles if I drove like a d!ck. Drive it with TLC and it'll last just fine.

Ffoxy who is one of our "senior" member's has his mapped to a mind blowing 193 bhp with torque to match, but due to his more caring driving nature has racked up silly miles with no bother last time I heard.

Thats put my mind a bit more at rest. About the remap will i get any benifits from fitting a K&N pannel filter or full induction kit? I am not a chav lol i am going to fit one for the sake of it, just so i can tell my m8s i got an induction kit.

I have hear that fitting an induction kit can in some cases reduce power because they induct hot air into the engine ?

Of course they're going to say that, they want you to buy their product ;)

I didn't speak to them...

I did speak to someone who road races a 1.9Mjet and who has gone through a good few turbos. He now runs the turbo off the 2.4Mjet but this required custom fabrication of other bits like exhaust.

A remap will put extra load on your turbo and reduce the time to failure. I guess many of the ppl on here who have remapped have been lucky or drive "gently". Personally I don't buy the "faulty batch" of turbos theory and don't want to risk a remap on the stock turbo. If my turbo does go however, I would replace it with the one I linked, not the stock one. :slayer:

I don't drive "gently" all the time. Most of the cars that have suffered turbo failure have had poor maintainance. Oil changes need to be more regular as the turbo is lubricated and cooled by the engine oil. As long as it is looked after, there should not be any problem. That Garrett turbo is stronger than you think.

Fair call. How often do you do oil changes and what does a new OEM turbo cost over there?

You dont buy it despite Fiat & Garrett saying there was a faulty batch themselves and other cars that use the same turbo suffering from turbos going to?? And then Fiat saying they were only going to replace them as they went not through a recall??

I agree all lies isnt it.

Provide evidence such as official statements from Fiat and Garrett and I may well be convinced. Do you know whether these turbos have a bearing or just a bush btw?

Cba to search for anything but i can remember on here people saying dealers were aware of a faulty batch of turbos after Fiat had notified them.

And Garrett? What did they say?

Ok, so you've got no evidence to back your assertion. That's fine but I'll take the advice of someone who has successfully developed one of these cars over your hearsay.
