For some reason Ihave a creaking noise when pulling away. Once ive got a bit of speedup it stops.

Just had 2xfront tyres replaced, new brake pads and discs (front and back) abd the tracking done - but the noise is still there!

Any ideas what this could be?

Seem to have narrowed it down a bit, hopefully might ring a bell with someone!

It only seems to make the noise when turning. Just took the car out for another ride andit made the sound when turning corners, turning out ofa parking space and when I reversed back into the space at an angle it made the noise.

When driving in a straight line or moving the wheel slightly it dosent make a sound, its only such as turning around a corner it starts creaking and groaning.

mine does it, not got round to fixing it yet, but it could be somthing to do with the door lock.
have a search it will give you some info but it could be the door not latching properly causing the door hinge to creak under stress.

Think ive narrowed it down a bit more! Was looking through the know faults and saw this -

Fault - Noise when turning
Cure - Top strut bearings
Status - Ongoing

Just tried turning the steering wheel whilst the vehicle was stationary and whichever way you turn the wheel it starts creaking and clunking.

Does this sound like the above fault? If so, is it a pricey job getting the top strut bearings replaced?

Just got it back from the garage and they said its both top strut bearings that need replacing.

Ive been quoted £280 labour and £35 for the parts - £317 in total. Is that a reasonable price for this job?

What's the labour time on the repair? If you went to a FIAT dealer, you will almost certainly be able to save money by going elsewhere!

Ive been quoted 4.8hrs labour

2x 1.9hrs to remove and refit
1x 1hr to strip down

This was at a local garage. I'll give Fiat a call and see what they would charge.

Bloody hell!

Phoned fiat and they want £50 inc vat for parts and £130 inc vat for labour!

Total of £180!

Made my day that has! Only problem is they dont have room till end of next week :(

Even better! Mr Clutch can do it for £134.60 and can fit me in tomorrow! Thats using parts they get direct from Fiat.

Im not very technical minded when it comes to cars. Id probably end up breaking or damaging something (or myself!)

Just got mine done today, complained last week about the grinding/groaning noise and they diagnosed the bearings. Had them fitted in 2 hours under the 3rd year warranty.
Nice one Richard Hardie :D

How old is your motor????

Hello. It seems that since yesterday I have the same problem - when I turn the steering wheel while the car is not moving or moving very slowly I have this creaking noise, mostly from the left front wheel. Can anybody confirm that the problem is with the strut bearings and report the problem fixed when bearings changed?

Thank you.

I mean they had that problem with their GP, and the problem gone after changing top mounts / bearings.

That sounds like the bearings, sort of like a springy sound, apparently the bearings collapse and the springs don't turn smoothly. I'm not mechanically minded so I might not have explained it well. funny enough mine was the offside one as well, nothing on the nearside but they replaced both (y)

Yes, that is exactly the sound - springy, creaking noise, not very loud and I can feel it on the steering wheel.
My car is LHD, so for me left front wheel is the near side, but it is the left wheel like yours. I'll take the car to the garage after the holidays.
:(
