Well my first post and a sadly to ask some advice on a few problems with my wife's 09 plate 1.4 T Jet Sporting 5 door.

1. Smell of petrol/oil - especially when doing a warm start. Car has been back to Fiat for this, and no leak has been found. Smell is quite strong, and I noticed today the dipstick has a similar smell. I see elsewhere on this forum it could be the breather pipe, am I right?

2. Sound of water in tailgate when opening it - presume a seal is broken, again from info I've seen on here. Also notice water on parcel shelf when this happens.

3. Condensation in fog light - presumably a new one is required?

4. CD player - keeps jumping on certain CDs then spits them out. Any fix or does it need a new one?

5. B&M and lack of compatibility with ipod - adapter needed - presume this will work fine if bought, don't want to waste ~£70

6. Sometimes B&M doesn't display the names from calls, only the number, no pattern as to when this happens.

7. Trim under windscreen coming up on drivers side - again new part needed from details on here????

8. Panel gaps you can drive a bus through, but I guess this is all part of buying a Fiat!!!

The car has been into Fiat for some of these problems and all the car software has been updated.

Panel gaps on mine and every Grande Punto are really close so are you sure it hasn't had a minor ding. Not sure on blue and me or cd player as mine works perfectly.

Trim on windscreen is common, condensation in foglights on any car is common as they are much closer to the road and water can get in after alot of splashing, and most likely breather pipe is split. Cheap jobby though.
 
Car is under warranty so will be very cheap lol

Where is breather pipe though? Would like to check it if I can....

Compared to my Mondeo and my Alfa 159 when I had it the panel gaps are huge, no accident as far as I'm aware though.
 
Hi,

The fuel smell usually occurs if the fans are on and on a hot temperature, this would indicate it to be the breather pipe, like mine was. Do the fans seem to be a bit splutterly instead of constant? The part is only £13.00ish but its located near the breather/filter box.

The water in the tailgate is a warranty issue and needs to be repaired at local fiat garage.

Condensation in fog light is normal. If you leave them on it should evaporate. If it doesn't check to see if there is water getting in. If there is its a warranty problem.

CD problem. Clean the CD first and if it doesn't work then try resetting the cd player.

Trim under windscreen is a warranty issue, very common fault.

Car went back to Fiat this week with mixed results.

1. Smell not due to breather pipe; apparently this only affects the 1.4 8v, the T jet doesn't suffer from this. Found the smell happened when the cliamte control was on, so air con was cleaned out but smell still there just not as bad so far....

2. Sorted with resealing the back window, so far but will see when it rains or the car is washed

3. New fog light fitted

4. Not consistent enough to change the head unit :bang:

7. Trim was apparently changed but is still quite bad
