Just a quick question but basically my dads got the esseesse kit on his abarth so im looking at pinching the std turbo for the Tjet but what i need to no is what parts are needed to complete the swap? as things stand there are many parts all seperated from each other in the wooden abarth crates. Iv obviously easily located the main turbo unit but are there any other parts that are needed?

New gaskets, bolts and a new oil tube?

Surely would be a good idea to change them.

When i finally get round to doing mine i will be doing the gasket and new bolts. I can't help but think for the sake of a few quid you would have peace of mind :)

I didnt bother with the gaskets when i did mine. Id recomend that you fit the turbo and manifold tho, its a lot less fiddly than trying to fit just the turbo.
The turbo will come attached to the manifold hopefully when the abarth technicians take it off your dads car.
And as "creep" said a oil change might be a good idea. Fresh turbo and fresh oil lovley jubley.

thorught you had a 1.4 8v?

so drain the oil unbolt the old turbo and manifold and bolt on the new top her oil back up, howd you make it so that on start up the new turbo isnt starved of oil?

Well the turbo does start up full wack does it? You turn the engine on then it pumps the oil round the turbo, hence why you are supposed to wait for the oil to warm up before you hammer your car.

i already know not to give it some before the oil is warm but when you start up it already has oil in the turbo it doesnt completely drain thats why i asked what to do to a oil free new turbo

the turbo spins faster than the engine so even at idle a relativity oil free new turbo would still rotate enough before the oil is pumped round it

Does anybody know what exactly needs to be taken off of the car to get at the manifold bolts? (front bumper, slam panel?) or is there an easier way?

If i can remember.... You'll have to take the air filters piping off the turbo and the engine cover plus a few heat shields. This should leave you with an accessable manifold (i think, it was quite a while ago when i did mine).
Its quite an easy job. One of the heat shields was a bit of a fiddle to get off but once you get started you should be ok.

I done mine about half a year ago, not overly difficult, used all the original gaskets and bolts. I will be doing my brothers one soon, will take some pics to hopefully help a few people out.

Cool you should definaly get some pics up or maybe even a guide. did you get your car mapped afterwards? what output you getting?

Ive just purchased a Fiat Workshop guide cd off ebay for £3.50 and they tell you to jack the car up remove the undertray, remove aload of heatshields remove the flexi joint exhaust section drop the cat down and remove the air intake, then unbolt the manifold with turbo still attached and swap turbo over in a vice.

I dont no if this is the easiest way. It would be easier for me if it could be done from the top.

thats pretty much it, getting to the underside manifold bots and the bottom oil feed line was the hardest part.

Yeah i had mine remapped was running 173 bhp then (completly standard except vl36 turbo) but i have done a few more things now and havent had the map tweeked yet.
