Cheers yea very pleased.

Well it was scaled 1-10 and went for about 6. Didn't want it too loud!

Ok cool didn't know that...look forward to it!!

Cool will invest in some then. Going to wash the car tomorrow anyway if weather is ok! Looks pretty dirty in the pics!!

Thanks! I know not very original but never mind!

No didn't go with the mid box, just back box and no it dosent pop and bang

i had a powerflow exhaust fitted back in october, pretty pleased with it however the other day i noticed its hanging very lose now :( (my sister has been driving for the last week, i blame her)

They come with lifetime guarantee as long as you get them to check it every year. Take it back and get them to sort it out!

Exhaust sounded even better today then it did yesterday, goes nicely with the induction kit (y)

Looks good. Looks familiar too :p

Has it got a mid box on it and does it pop and bang?

How does an exhaust pop? The 1.4 8v has no mid silencer box, so would a straight through cat back 2.5" bore make this popping sound?

Would kill all your power as you would have no backpressure.

and it pops because of unburnt petrol exploding in the exhaust. Just pinched this off another forum:

you do see it quite often on turbo cars, but that's most of the time when the turbo looses pressure, it takes a few cycles for the ignition to detect this, and during this time it inject to much fuel in the cylinder, which gets pushed out and explodes due to the heat of the exhaust, nothing harmfull with this

Ok so if I walked into longlife and wanted an exhaust for my 1.4 8v what would be the best? 1.5" cat back bore to a backbox fitted by themselves or just a backbox?

Sorry about 20 questions

This is not true, article from Redline Mag last year in the tuning myths section.

Exhausts need back pressure.
This one based on people tuning their engines incorrectly and blaming the wrong. On a non-turbo car, if you fit an exhaust system that is to large a diameter it can acutally lose power. But it isn't from lack of back pressure, it is a lack of exhaust velocity. Lack of back pressure is a good thing. On turbo cars largest exhaust you can fit is always what you should aim for post-turbo. The only good thing to come from back pressure is that it helps stop a worn out turbo smoking so easily by keeping the oil behind the worn seals.

Jack you need back pressure on an NA. If you have no back pressure then the gasses arent forced away from the engine which in turn looses you power. Believe what redline say all you want but their are plenty of articles about from people with better pedigree in exhaust/engine design than a journalist so i know who im going to believe. There is an article knocking around on mk2 about it.

Well doesn't that make matt right? He has said I would lose power and back pressure like your article said just didn't mention exhaust velocity.

So the outcome would still be the same, get a cat back exhaust with a larger bore than standard but not as big as I said "2.5" as this would lose exhaust velocity so a smaller bore is needed, with a backbox. But all I asked was how to make an exhaust pop and bang lol

Backpressure and velocity come hand in hand. If you dont have back pressure then you wont have any velocity because on an NA car the gases come out the engine and sit in the exhaust. The backpressure in the system then pushes the gases away from the engine which in turn gives velocity to the gases. Back pressure is not imporant on a Turbo car because the turbo pushes the gases out so you want as little restrictions as possible so that the gases can escape as quickly as possible.

Or at least that is my understanding of it.
