Tuning tmc box puts car in limp mode

This happened to me 18 months ago with a different make of box that had been running great for 9 months. I had taken the GPS130 to the rev limit & all of a sudden, Check Engine Light came on & total loss of power (Limp mode....). I left the car overnight & in the morning it started & ran normally - but with the Check Engine Light on. I ordered an Elm327 OBDII unit from Hong Kong off Ebay for £15, plugged it into a laptop, installed "Scantool 1.14" & cleared the light via the OBDII port within 10 seconds. (Fiat wanted £60-£80 to clear the light!!). It turned out that I had overboosted the turbo....

However, I suspect that the ECU map has not been correctly loaded onto your TMC box & there is no map! If the car runs fine with the box removed (albeit with the Check Engine Light still illuminated) then this is almost certainly the case. Best of Luck.

As a footnote, the £15 ELM327 has paid for itself many times in clearing dashboard light faults on mates cars.(y)

iv sorted the problem now, and i know im gonna get some abuse for this. it was in he wrong socket , i was plugging it into one in the middle of the common rail, and didn't plug directly into it, but connected to common rail by a wire. i found the socket where it was meant to go partially hidden by the engine cover. Daron from tmc was a great help, and iv plugged it in, and it works great!!
to get a rough idea of the improvement, theres a place with some roundabouts near where i live. the roundabouts aren't not miles apart, and before i fitted the box, if i was to neck it i could reach about 75mph before having to break. with the box i reached about 92mph before having to break. and the car itself still felt like it had more to give, whereas before at 90 the car could still go faster, but with a little bit of effort! would definitely recommend the box, asit really is a great product.

What's the difference then compared with standard, can you feel the difference throughout the gears? Are you going to get it RR'd?

C'mon you're the first person to ever ever buy a TMC GPS T-Jet box what are they like????

yeah, its the m jet one i have for the 1.3. but there is alot more pull, and it seems that the extra pull is all coming from a bigger deeper turbo boost. the gear ratio is still the same, and still get same speeds out of gears. i can also pull away in 2nd almost as 1st now lol.

i will put it on a rr, but i might wait until i get a gsr. ( pete said he is going to make one for the 1.3 as theres a bit of interest in it now) ad bigger intercooler (glenny22 is trialling different ones for 1.3).
also today i went up against a c2 vtr 09 plate, and pulverised it

Didn't know you had the MJ, I should've clocked on when you said common rail
Sounds not too bad, is the 1.3 turbo same as 1.9? noo can't be can it?
Good job beating the C2 anyway lad, I hate em

i have the 75bhp version, not sure whats it pulling now, but im guessing around 90bhp. im pretty sure my turbo is smaller, and is probably different, im not sure if it will fit on mine, though i doubt it without having to change manifolds etc.
yeah i dont like citroens lol.:p

Dont diesels have bigger increases in BHP after a map or box than petrol, id say you've gained more than just 15bhp surely, just a thought though.

Unlucky on the box, we all make mistakes lol :D

15 BHP sounds about right to me, the tuning boxes don't push the manufacture limits like remaps so I'd think the petrol & diesels have similar gains with the TMC.

I think it's just diesels can be tunedhigher then petrols.

Surprises me that you are going to go through all the effort of a IC and induction, with just a little tuning box. Custom remap will get all the benefit from them. Why spend so much money on other things if your not going to maximise the benefit?

i cant fault the box tbh, definately worth the money. when/if the gsr and intercooler upgrades happen then i might consider a remap, as it will probably work the intake better.
i estimate that after intercooler and gsr my cat will be pulling maybe 110bhp, but should be as quick as stock 1.9 as its lighter i think.
for everyone who says just get the 1.9, because the 1.3 is the only car with not much tuning available, and im trying to change that, and unlock its potential :yum:
