eMe and my car we go issues, issues, issues......

Hi all,

I own a 57 (nov 07) GP sporting MJ1.9. Its in its 3rd year now and everything is falling apart. Here is a list...

-Alloy wheel corrosion on all 4 alloys
-Dash lights on heater pannel not working (not bulbs)
-Vent under windscreen lifted up when hot air on
-Whirring noise from rear right wheel (louder the faster i go). Possibly bearing?
-Passenger seat will only lock in one position

So my car went in this morning for the steering recall, the dealer said NONE of these issues are covered by the third year warranty?!!!??! I cant beleive that a 2.5 year old car has this many problems. I know they wont do the wheels as i have already been in contact with fiat HQ on this. My fiat is on auto trader tomorrow if these dont get fixed for free.

Does anyone have any advice on how i can get my dealer to fix these problems under the warranty? I am expecting a call today when they have looked at all the problems.

Well I can confirm the dash went trim isn't covered - mine went a week into the 3rd year and Fiat HQ were no help. Dealer fitted it for free though (I paid for the part).

Wow thats a bit rash. Most of those faults you can fix yourself with help from this forum. Another dealer will say the same, they are tied to the warranty provided by the third year. There is not a lot covered by the third year, I had a coolant pipe fail, a boost pipe fail, B&M failed and my steering wheel has bubbles in the leather, none of which covered by the third year. If you look on Civic forums, theres pleanty more problems with some of them compared to you'res.

I have had a go at fixing them. I changed the dash bulb, but its a lose connection somewhere. The alloys will cost about 100 each to get done and the dash i cant get back down at all. God knows what is wrong with the rear wheel. Dealer will no doubt say its in my head. Im getting rid before the wheels rot so bad no one wants to buy it. My corsa lasted 5 years with not one fault. Time to leave fiat for sunnier shores

Nah it won't. I had mine done by a reputable company in Kent through a tyre dealer near where I live - they cost about 60 a corner if I remember correctly. And I was really, really pleased with the result! It wasn't a bodge job either.

I'm gonna be a little harsh here Tommy...

Off you go... buy a Civic....

Now then, my alloys were all powderc oated for 45 a corner, done by The Wheel Specialists in B'ham... excellent job. Loose connection... just find it... all cars have them believe it or not!

Get the rear wheel bearing done its not that expensive, mine WAS done under 3rd yr warranty.

Alternatively go buy a Civic...

Mr Ffoxy. Play nice - we want him to buy a BMW as they never go wrong

I'm a little dim with these things, but is a powder coating what's on the original wheels? Mine were just "restored" to the 'factory look', which I assumed was taking back to the alloy. sand blasting, filling and coating in lacquer again.

It's a shame that time, a few broken curbs, and once or twice bad parking by me (don't tell anyone) have taken their toll and I need the edges repairing again

Powder coating is all together different to the original finish Garree, thicker, more durable are 2 advantages. Its key to avoid kerbing as no finish will resist that. Mine still look almost as good as the day they were done, with tyre fitters causing the few tiny blemishes they now have.
