Currently driving a 2002 1.2 8v Punto but am seriously considering upgrading to a Grande Punto.

Been saving my pennies for a while now and am looking at spending around 6-7k, Was just wondering if it is worth buying a 1.2 or a 1.4? Obviously, insurance will be an issue with a bigger engine, but is there a noticeable amount of difference between the 2?

Cheers

I'd say it's worth upgrading - but try and go for a 1.4 16v. The 8v one will probably feel just like your current car as the GP is a lot heavier than the old Punto.

With regard to insurance - even the 1.9 MJ or the 1.4 TJ are only in group 6. That is old insurance groups 1-20. I am not sure how it fits in with the new ones.

And for £6-7k you could quite easily afford a good 3 year old 1.9.

Hi mate,

Problem is though i am only 17. Insurance group 6 is a hell of a lot of money for me, probably be talking over £3000.

1.4 shouldnt be too much of a problem once i get my years no claims though.

Hi im 18 I nave NNCB and still my 1.4 8v is £700 a year. My cousin has a 09 T-Jet at the age of 19 and is £2000 a year, try phoning insurance companies, if you can get a 1.4 16v sporting, do the added extras will be nice like bigger alloys CC'd handles etc etc (y)
