My punto has started cutting out and various warning messages appearing i.e. Excessive radiator temp. ABS inactive, power steering inactive. This then clears and works ok. Any ideas __________________

wow, thats a lot of warning messages. i suggest getting a diagnostic check done. But with all those errors it could be related to the ECU as i doubt the abs, power steering and other things are all faulty at the same time??? could also be a wiring fault but i reckon the ECU, but only way to check is by having a diagnostic check done.

good luck(y)

Thanks for that. Been reading other threads and seems a common fault is a low battery so I will get that checked too.

Well the abs and power steering have seperate ecu's, so I'd check your wiring/earth points

Battery or its connections is a good call (y)

had the diagnostic done and nothing showing. Car wont start at all now. Battery checked and ok. At a loss.

Hi there again. Punto Grande 1.2 Active. A/c Garage renfrew Road, Paisley. Sorry I wasnt too accurate all the paperwork is in the car at the garage.

I had this on my current GP. Everything failed when I was driving. ABS, ESP,ASR, Steering just everything and it was the alternator. Went to fiat and they refurbished my existing oneand cost approx £300 : O Luckily, this was 3 days after I purchased this and I had a warranty so all was good.

Not much luck on this car so far : P

Its all part of the fun of having a FIAT!
Iv had:

  • Radiator temp, (switch of engine & Restart)
  • Constantly get Power steering check, see manual
  • Temptreture flashes all the time now
  • Mileage flashes often!
I just love it, lol!

i think FIAT is now on par with ALFA ROMEOS haha

3 of the above is cured with a simple software update!

Alfas will always be worse.

Just an update for everyone. After 2 weeks of haggling with Fiat and Arnold Clark turns out needed new ECU. They tried to charge me for electrical work but I refused as actual fault was covered with warranty. Customer services were very helpful and overruled the branch and therefore cost me nothing but 2 weeks of hastle. THanks to everyone who posted advice.

Good stuff(y)

You obviously have the non-updatable ECU (8) so at least the new ECU will sort it out.

As for customer services over turning arnold clarks decision...doubt it! customer services will have paid for ECU. arnold clark certainly wouldn't.

Software update should cure it. I had that message quite often on my GP Sporting MJet, it took the dealer 3 software updates to sort it out, since then (3 years ago), that message appeared only on two occasions. Mind you, T will know better though:slayer:
