Thought this may be of interest to people:

I know it had a 5* rating, but seeing how it stands up is quite satisfying!

Its interesting your showing this as I was looking at it the other day...

Now here's just a point for comparison

YouTube- Euro NCAP | Fiat Seicento | 2000 | Crash test

or my friends car....

YouTube- Euro NCAP | Rover 100 | 1997 | Crash test

 the seicento is a death trap, im geniunely shocked by the crumbling of the entire shell.

to the original post i knew it had several airbags and pretensioners and its a 5star ncap car but its reasuring to see things like that yea, i remember a car on here that overturned on the motorway and he had slight bruising if i remember rightly, that made me feel alot better!

i gladly carry the extra weight than an older car if me and my passengers survive a real life scenario (y)

glad the crash test wasnt a tjet though i bet they went to and thought no we just cant do that to a tjet hahaa :p

All curtain airbags go through to the back...

I can vouch for saftey of them, I smashed into the back of someone at 40-50mph and only sustained minor injury from the airbag on my arm.

Front of the car was missing though.

See picture.

 Ouch! All hail the GP :worship:

Glad you were OK though :)

thats pretty good, is that smart advert true, where that ball comes and smahes the front of it and its ok?
YouTube- Smart Car Commercial
if thats not cgi then WOW, its worth getting one of them lol

I just saw an episode of Fifth Gear where they wrecked several cars and the Smart was one of them.

Smarts will take a huge beating and look pretty good afterwards, BUT the people in the car will be dead.

The Smart car is one of the safest cars in the fact it's 'Tident' saftey cell. Hugely strong 'cell' of high-grade steel similar to the ones in F1 cars etc.

Also it's so small and light it doesn't asorb much of the impact force unlike bigger cars, and literally bounces off and deflects most of the impact force.

The key thing to remember is, cars are designed to provide protection upto 40mph ish, but anything faster and stopping so suddenly your body and mainly your internal organs can not survive being thrust into your rib cage at 3Gs.

Always wear your seatbelt, it certainly saved my life and will save yours. I do suffer from neckpain/backpain now though. :(

That's the video where they slam it into a concrete wall at 70mph.

Just to point something out.
All GPs sold in the country are advertised as having the 5 star rating from NCAP.
The car tested though looks to be a dynamic with active wheel trims.

Actives don't have side or curtain airbags as standard so would they score so well on side or poll impacts? Also the car tested is the 3 door. Would the 5 door score just as well?

i had a smack in my last 07 gps, a chap (bellend) pulled out right in front of me, driving a citroen xsara , and i had no option but to hit him full on about 30 mph. his motor was trashed big time, mine was about 4k of damage, but to the gps credit the interior was intact completely, most of the damage was cosmetic and steering rack sort of bits.
there was a bright side, he got a £60 fine and 3 points. i lost about £3k after trading it in for a new one, just wasnt the same after the crash.
its not the same when someone ruins ya toy.
untill you been in a crash you dont really pay much attention to the ratings, i do now......

Was this near Ipswich? I remember when I was working on a site and saw a gorgeous blue GP involved in a crash, was really reassuring to see but it did make me sad.

they really have come a long way, I had an 18 year old girl smash into they back of my 2 month old T-Jet before Christmas

She was driving an X Reg Punto and hers was completely destroyed, and my T-Jet is being repaired but then it is worth a lot more... but hers looked a lot like Jason's Grande further up.

in the crash, my rear bumper smashed open, and you can see inside there is a big metal bar running along the car, attached to two metal arms that crumpled with the impact, protecting the vital parts of the car, like the fuel tank and rear suspension etc so it was still drivable.

but the car also cut out the fuel for safety, and no matter how closely I followed the instructions in the manual, I couldn't get it to start again so it had to be taken on an AA truck...

Compared to my old Peugeot 306, which was totalled at about 20 mph when someone pulled out in front of me, the Grande held up well to the silly girl driving too fast on the icy roads.

It wasn't, it was Northampton.

Bright sunny June summer's day in 2008, distraction by another accident on the left and a woman not wanting to slam into her boyfriend's brand new Fiesta so she slammed her breaks on. :bang:

Percy the punto bummed a Megane at 40+ and the Megane came up the bonnet and towards my face :S

Sort of like one of those Police Stop videos of some youbs reversing up the window trying to get the copper to suck some tail pipe!

Ach, not good, and that is a fat arse, can't believe its got so little damage considering it went up your bonnet.
Still want to find out about the one near Ipswich tho, similar thing to you, coming towards a roundabout woman in an zafira slams brakes on, audi goes into her, guy in GP squashes audi... Audi did not look good (bent up in the middle) but the GP wasn't too bad

Percy was hit about two months of having him in January 2007 by a oink in a Corsa on the Dual Carrige way in stop/start traffic.

Luckily it was at about 5mph, and luckily the back of Percy was filthy so where he impacted left a clear clean square.

His corsa crumped in on the top part, loosin the badge are and lip of the bonnet bending.

I know, in all honesty if I had been going faster it really would have come through the windscreen... :tempt:
