Hi all, done my Searches and found a couple have had this.

Finally yes it broke... :(

All starts, runs, drives fine just wont switch off. I have seen the fuse-box blamed. I checked mine, no water, no sign of it on the top inside the cover anyhow. I get the "car protection system failure" light on and off, and after I checked the fusebox I got the "check engine" light...

She starts, runs & drives just as before... I've tried dissing the battery for 30 mins, no effect. Could it possibly be my remote key-fob battery?

So what are my checks / options guys before I go see my dealer?

I see Tym had this too... deffuser box? WTF? Starter Solenoid?

Bug*er....

happened to mine, they replaced a circuit in the car somewhere that was faulty and under warranty!

Mines well out of Warranty now :( Odd thing is everything else switches off with the key, lights, radio.... Check Engine ligt is on now, the car security light pleases itself, just had a run to the chippy and it switched off fine....

Looks like the Dealer for a raping....

A sticking fuel pressure regulator will cause this problem, have seen it on several of the high pressure pumps used in jtd engines. Really need to check the codes if any and check wiring, dependent on what codes are stored.

Thanks NumanR, I'm starting to get the feeling there could be a few causes so Examiner will have to be my expensive friend, memo to self..."Buy an EOBD2 code reader..."

Sorry to hear about this mate, hopefully you will get it sorted..cheaply :)

I have however got warrantydirect cover on my car, and had it on my previous - never had to claim though so I can't comment on that, but with regards to paperwork, whats covered and customer service its been faultless really. Bargain at £21 a month for there highest package, just haggle loads I was getting calls for a month from them, getting cheaper each time.

I think I get £10 if i refer someone, so if you do go for it let me know and i'l donate it to the forum.

And so today my car is happy again.... No dash lights, starts & runs great.... and it switches off on demand. :) I bet this wont be the end of it though....

Ffoxy, happened to me about 12000 miles ago.

The only thing I could put it down to was moisture lurking somewhere and upsetting it after I had been through a very large puddle. Next day once it was dry all was ok and has been fine since.

I also had it checked over by the dealer and it came out with a clean bill of health.

It might never happen again but worth checking.

Cheers IainG, she's behaving perfectly now, I've ordered a Fiat compliant Gendan code reader to see what the EML was reporting, hope its logged it, I'll let you know. Odd thing is it actually seems even zippier now since the problem... I have no idea why! Turbo spools up at around 1,200 RPM now rather than 1,400 & it makes a big difference, the wonders of modern cars eh... Oh and for the FIAT knockers... my neighbours 05 plate V40 Volvo wouldnt start today! No car is perfick!

had the same problem about sept october last year, did some searching here. it went away after a couple of days, i put it down to water being somewhere it shouldnt as it has been fine since. and at the time the roads had been incredibly wet, and 9i had been doiing quite a lot of miles.

Mine did this, after a long wash with the pressurehose at Sainsbury's car wash...

It wouldn't turn off, it ran for 2-3 minutes after key was in hand.

Took it to dealer and they replaced the fusebox undeer warranty and re-sealed it all.

Seemed to be the problem.

A la FIATs 'leccys + wet = dodge.

water in the bottom of my fusebox caused all sorts of fun and games for over 8 months till the connections became corroded enough and everthing died, except the horn. The horn was very much alive and had a will of its own for 2 days.

The embarrassment...

Water gets in and goes through the unused holes, i don't blame them for not finding the fault.

Is the fusebox easy to remove / open up? Anyone know?
I'd give it a go... but I've washed my car the same way for 3 years without a problem... and its still fine now.
