Hi all

I've recently been getting intermittent brake fluid warning notifications in my '06 Dynamic 1.3 (90) multijet. I've checked the fluid level and it's pretty much dead on halfway between the maximum and minimum markers so it appears to be ok. At first it only seemed to happen while turning sharp bends to the left, and looking at the position of the sensor I would think it might be caused by the movement of the fluid, but it seems to be happening more often now, even on the straights. The warning goes off after about 20 secs. Anyone else encountered this?

second MEP's reasoning if the level gets below 1/2 and you begin so starve your clutch of fluid.....

you need DOT 4 NOT 4.1 (full spec is in the handbook towards the back) you MUST use the correct stuff or it will knacker your brake seals / master cylinder/ Clutch

I'd go with the system maybe needing bleeding. If there's air somewhere near the sensor, it'd be reading as empty perhaps?

Cheers everyone.

Topped the fluid up over the weekend and the journey into work went without any warning lights and high pitched alarms! Hopefully that's sorted. Just need to sort out the traffic announcement volume because my ears can't take much more! (y)

That's easy - Menu > External Volume.

There is a problem with the system though.

I like traffic announcements on, but I can't use it with the Blue and Me. The B&M needs more volume so I can hear the woman who lives in the dashboard and the person I am talking to. But the volume for the B&M lady is the same one for the traffic announcements. Cue heart attack at quarter past the hour when the local station does a traffic report...

Yeah, I thought the Menu>External Volume selection would do it but it doesn't seem to have any effect?

Should do; well it does on mine. I was only playing with it last night again to see if there was a way round the heart attack and loud traffic announcements problem. Unfortunately, there didn't seem to be. My B&M lady is set to speak at around volume level 18. Alas, come the traffic announcement - also 18. The only reason I am not dead is because I was expecting this announcement :p

Ahh ive been having this too, but my clutch is knackard so it must have been that, didnt think of that!

Matty is the problem with your clutch been "sticky" on the way back up?

will have to make this in to a guide at some point

you need a one man bleed kit some correct brake fluid (CHECK YOUR HANDBOOK) or bottle top the GP uses DOT 4 but check first.....

connect your bleed kit to the nipple (take rubber cap off first)

next clean round brake fluid cap (dont want any dirt in)

Fresh brake fluid (new bottle dont use one thats been sat on the garage shelf for years as it adsorbs water)

open bleed nipple one turn (mines a finger tight wing nut affair)

get a willing helper to slowly pump and release clutch pedal (they might have to pull it back up a few times)

once the fluid is running clear of air

(dont let the brake reservoir run low so it draws more air in keep it full)

whilst your helper presses the peddle slowly force the piston back by hand (making it shorter) this pushes any air out that has got trapped forward of the bleed nipple)

do it a couple more times to make sure then close nipple

next top up fluid to max refit lid

and enjoy a working clutch

DO NOT GET BRAKE FLUID ON YOUR PAINTWORK AS IT WILL STRIP IT

if the pedal is still sticky or notchy you still have air in it

you physically pulled the clutch back up when bleeding? it wont come back up till the air is removed...
