Just went to start the car to go for a bit of a drive and as I turned the key, nothing happened. A warning appeared on the display saying "have power steering checked". The engine won't even start

The car with the padlock symbol is lit up constantly

Anyone had this and know what the problem is?

Try disconnecting the battery for a while, while its disconnected check there is at least 13.5VDC available. If not, charge the battery and try it again.

Urgent help

As in my thread below, my car won't start. Went to HiQ to get a new battery and they offered to come to the house and jump start it. Turns out it isn't the battery. The guy said it seems as though something is stopping the engine from starting and mentioned maybe the immobiliser.

There is a weird bleeping noise when the key isn't inserted and the climate control lights are going mad despite no key being in.

Phoned Clemo fiat in Bradford and said they can't fit me in until March due to the amount of requests due to only two fiat garages in West Yorkshire  ****ing joke. Can't get a hire car as under 23.

How the **** am I meant to get to work.

Has anyone else had a problem like this and know what the issue might be? Tried the spare key and that didn't work.

im probably wrong but do you think its anything to do with the steering recall? maybe what the recall is trying to fix has actually gone wrong with your car the upper steering column?

Steering recall is just that, a recall affecting the steering. The coulmn to be exact to prevent the two halves top and bottom becoming disconnected (v unlikely)

Sounds like a body computer/ECU problem.

Have you reset the ECU by leaving the battery off for a short while?

No, Will give it a bash

How long does it need to be disconnected for to reset ECU?

If it wasn't a battery problem initially then it will be now. The climate control is going barmy, looks like Blackpool Illuminations although it stops when you try to start the car. The noise has also got a lot louder aswell, best way i can describe it is like a little dog weeping sort of noise.

Having read the handbook, it seems that the problem is the Fiat CODE system. It says that if the 'car protection system failure' symbol and 'EOBD system failure' symbol stay on together then it indicates a failure of the Fiat CODE system.

So basically, it isn't recognising my key for some reason or the second key I have.

This doesn't explain though why there is a bleeping noise and blackpool illuminations coming out of the climate control display

No luck with that. Going to have to get RAC out to recover it and take it to Clemo fiat or Picaddilly if they can fit me in sooner.

Well it has started up this morning and I've driven it to work, although what damage it was doing im not sure. The power steering warning light is still on and it's making a horrible grinding noise when anywhere close to full lock, even worse in reverse making it close to impossible to park.

Phoned Clemo and they've said to go over and they'll have a listen to see if it is doing too much damage to keep driving it, but they wouldn't be able to sort it until end of the 1st week in March

God knows what the issue with the ignition was and why the climate control was going barmy. 22 months of no problems and then it all comes at once (n)
