funny sounding turbo since failed egr and split turbo hose

i posted recently my turbo hose split/burst/perished, and while car was in dealer they found a faulty (stuck open) egr valve, they replaced egr and boost pipe. since having it back the turbo sounds like a police siren when you first set off, or low revs/when it starts to spool.

what could this be? failing turbo? bent or missing fin?

or normal?

ive had a search on google, and it seems to point towards chipped or broken fin? anyone elses sound the same?

take it back to garage

Police siren sounds are commonly reported, usually means the turbo is knackered.

My mate has had two turbos replaced with the same problem.

Back to the garage I think for a propoer diagnosis.

normally just means a bent fin or two, turbo on the whole still works.

Yeah, will probably require a new compressor wheel or possibly whole shaft and wheels, depending on the state of them. In this case its in warrenty, so itl be dealt with on an exchange basis and then reconditioned by FPT or Garrett

i remember a GP 1.9 and i was constantly looking in rear view mirror for blue lights....was absolutely doing my nut in and gave up looking for a door rattle, customer wasn't bothered about the turbo noise

Many thanks for all your replies. Just seems odd it started after having turbo hose and egr done. Will get it booked in this week and will keep you updated how I get on.

:shakehead: Nah... 62,000 miles on mine now, mapped at 32,000!

Yes driven conservatively. I'm sure mat drives it much more spirited .

In which case it would be the driving style that fooked it rather than the re-map! :nerner:

You're making an easy mistake Chris imagining a Silver Surfer doesnt enjoy "giving it beans"!

There was a dodgy batch of turbo's on these anyway wasn't there? Meaning that a Remap which will make the turbo work harder would make it fail quicker?

Either that or its ingested debris while the pipe was split.

I reckon it either picked up some muck through the split pipe or there was some on the inside of the new one. causing it to break a fin. Fiat should fit you a new one

Reconditioned . Major parts like transmission, turbo's etc are all recon'd units.
