Technical 1.9 MJet EGR

Hi, i have just brought a 2006 1.9Jtd sporting with 26,000 miles on the clock and what you have described seems to be a problem i have at the moment?
I had no power at all but disconecting the fuel flow meter has put the power back on. I know this cannot be kept like this but does this still mean its the EGR?

On the management system it comes up with both as a fault when connected.
I also have the black smoke problem and poor power below 2000 revs.

You have probably answered my question already but as im a mechanical pleb any advice would be helpful as i do not want to change both items when its the EGR or a faulty fuel flow system? Thanks.

Well boys and girls it seems my EGR valve has gone bad as well:(

I thought the reason my mjet was stalling was because of my inability to change from petrol to diesel but last weds night my engine management light came on, and after a trip to the stealers and a pc diagnostic it turns out my EGR is stuck on closed!!

But the strange thing is that it has not affected the performance...yet!:worship:

So going in to my local dealer for my work on Monday to get it booked in!(y)

Its brill when its done! Thought about having the Swirl gasket installed at the same time?

Im glad I've seen this thread as Im new to the world of the GP and diesel for that matter after coming from a 1.8t Cupra. My car has been displaying all these since over the last week and finally worried me once the check engine light came on.

My first sign has been the odd occasion when it doesnt start first time and the judder when the engine is turned off but I thought this was because it was diesel :p Its also stalled a couple of times and like the guy above said I though it was because I wasnt used to a diesel. The last few days the car has seemed lifeless until about 2.5k rpm especially in third gear and then flies. Then the engine light came on on the motorway yesterday but Im hoping my problems will be solved by cleaning / replacing the EGR!

Do people think its best to clean first then if it doesnt work replace it or is it just best to replace in the first place to save hassle? My car has done 87k.

Apart from this the cars been fine and great to drive too, just the indicaor stalk that sometimes seems to be a little delayed, not sure whether this is common or not?

Excellent forum by the way guys, nice to see theres a good following outside the world of VAG!

Hi Tom & Welcome here, good Forum this, been on a while now seen members come & go. I had my EGR changed, made a world of difference. Cleaning is fine if done properly, personally I'd advocate replacement as cleaning is awkward & the electric solenoid side requires some surgery to do, not really worth the effort unless you keep the old one in a cleaned up state just in case you need it. Consider the Swirl gasket too, plenty in here about that. Supposed to prevent or delay further build ups. Also plenty of debate about blocking off the EGR altogether, some good points are raised. I'm still missing my Grande MJet, sold it for a Hyundai i30 1.6 petrol which hasnt disappointed yet in 2 months, just miss my 194Bhp & 263ft lbs of torque... The indicator thing is common, not a problem really, more a characteristic of most Italian cars, roundabouts can be the worst but you learn to live with it.
