Technical 1.9 MJet EGR

jsut wanted to add more infor to this thread ,
my 1.9 Mjet had a probelm with the EGR about 25k on the clock just out of warranty, struggled to get it going once i did very little power until about 2500 to 3000 revs then it took off. had the EGR cleaned and it ran for 2/3 weeks then failed again with the same sympomtons and was replaced.

just to add as well i believe the 1.9 engine is the same as in SAAB 93's and vectra's , my dad owns a 93 and had this issue with the EGR and it was replaced problem solved and a few freinds that own vectra's with 1.9 engines have had the same problem and the same resolution.

Well, i'm in the EGR failed club too. I have this problem for months. Juddering just before 2000rpm. I used 100ml of 10p oil in 3-4 fill ups and problem gone. In the last month i'm experiencing a loss of power. Not on specific revs, just that the car is less strong and not running normal. I'm off for a remap next month and an EGR disablement. I know what people are gonna say, byt i'll give it that try and see from there.

Mine failed at 60k and was replaced under warrenty. I always had a "stutter" on throttle responce when warming up after that... just had my 90k service done, and added the swirl gasket, and it has cured my stutter.... (y) hopefully it will help this EGR valve last longer.

Where does this swirl gasket sit.
I had my egr changed 1 year ago (fiat recon under warranty) after approx 30k.
Now getting the same symtons at 55k. Cleaned my egr last weekend but hardly made a difference.
I have now ordered from the bay the saab egr ( hope it fits - certainly looks the same).
So back to my original question where does the swirl gasket sit. There are 3 possibilities in my opinion.
1 flex pipe attatched to engine (top area)
2 Flex pipe attatched to egr
3 Rigid pipe attatched to engine (lower area)

would be gratefull if anyone can help with this and what is the function of it (does it help keep egr clean).

I would also like to add that the user guide for cleaning the egr was excellent to explain how to remove it.

I'll ask you the same question I have asked Prometheus2k6 & ricec87 Shaun...

Did you find & clean the 2 hidden side venturi?

To be honest do not remember seeing or cleaning them - did you get any pictures.
I have ordered the part now so will be stripping down the old again when i take it back off so if it is the venturi's will hopefully mean i will then carry a spare for the future.

I've re-assembled it now Shaun, no pics sorry, but where the EGR splits on the metal side, look at the edges of the EGR body & probe around, I used a plastic cable tie & found the 2 venturi, about half an inch wide, & opposite each other, just under the lip. The cable tie I used just about slid down the venturi almost the full length of the cast body, they must be there for something so should be clear!

I had trouble getting the EGR off , so took it to the guy up the road i swear by, he also sorted my dads saab, everything was cleared out and the car ran the best it had since i got it, unfortunetly i dont know if the side Venturi was checked, though if i have trouble with it again i'm thinking of blocking it off as it seems to cause less hasle that route

I will post some pics of the new one when it arrives so all can see what it should look like.(y)

just search swirl gasket, there's a picture fitting guide, I had it put on the intake into the EGR, to the right of it, as you look at the engine bay, like the pic on here showed....

hi i have not checkey the two side venturi as asked by foxy but have had a good stroke of luck today! i was aranging the sale of old lights from my previus car and said to the guy buying that the cash will help my sick punto and he replys i work for fiat! shocked i was, and he has told me this the egr valve part no.55215032 is the same on the vauxhal CDTI engine and the sabb engine its built by fiat and sent to them, so if you go to a vauxhal garage and ask for the same part number they will give you the same part all shiny and new! with a vauxhal badge on it for 90 quid instead of 260 as quoted by my local fiat garage!

i think this is a good piece of info for all those people with a m-jet out of waranty like me :) hope this helps people out a bit
