Hello,

the front wipers on my grande punto have stopped working. Having checked earlier threads, I can confirm that;
- the fuse is ok on the basis that the rear wiper still works;
- the wipers are not loose on their mounts (have tightened the mounting nuts)
- having removed the motor, it all _looks_ fine. No obvious sign of burnout etc
- there doesn't seem to be any current coming through the two pins that connect to the motor itself. The two that connect to the speed controller(??) [White plastic component in the motor unit] do however have 12v coming through.

I guess I'm looking at either a broken switch in the stalk or a broken relay? Any ideas at all??

Thanks!

Hi to everyone,

I have the same problem: my GP wipers got stuck on the motorway while it was (luckily, not heavily) raining.
However, while starting my investigation, I cannot find the position of fuse related to wipers on the manual (the closest one is #5 which is related to the electric-pump for the windscreen cleaning).
Can you please help me in that?
Thanks

Wel hello everyone,

I also had the same problem described above. Since I've found a lot of topics on this subject on the forum, this seems to be a common problem. I've been working a few hours these last days trying to locate and fix this problem and succeeded. Here's what I found out:

At first I checked all the wires and electronics. Everything seems fine: fuses, wires, body controller,... No problems found here.

We disassembled the wiper motor and applied voltage straight to the connector pins (pin 4 and pin 1 or 2), the engine did not run. Weirldy, it did run however when we applied voltage to pin1 and pin2.

We opened the engine itself for further investigation. After some tests, we figured out that the earth terminal of the motor had a bad connection to the engine housing (the motor housing serves as earth for the complete wiper assembly). This caused the failiure. We made a new connection from the earth terminal wire to the housing and the problem is now gone! THe wiper is working again.

Conclusion: bad earth connection inside the wiper motor.

Hope this helps somebody else fixing his broken wipers!
A replacement wiper also fixes the problem of course!

indeed correct. Wiper motor is in front of the driver. This changes nothing to the problem/sollution i guess.

Fiat should already be aware of this, and hopefully already made a product improvement, so it won't happen again if you buy a new one.

Hi guys/gals,

have the same problem which is described here. I was able to unmount and disassemble the wiper's engine but that was all. I didn't know how to follow. I was expecting any wires inside wiper's engine but there are none. I have Grande Punto 1,4 16v 3 door produced 01/2008. Well, where should I look for the earth termination, the connection to engine housing which is described here? Don't you have some photos of your solution? That engine has two parts, one, bigger, where is (I don't know correct English expression for this) coil core and magnet and 2nd part of the engine has electricity wires plug in. I was expecting to find earth terminal somewhere in the 2nd part but I saw just some contacts there. No wires. Well, there was, let's say, some black plastic cover attached firmly to metal plate. It seems to me non-removable so I didn't touch it. I guess that it is the only way where some wires or connections may lead.

Could anyone who made the workaround described by George specify location of needed fix more closely? Where is location of earth termination? Any photos available?

Regards,

Michal Paulovic
