Hi Guys,

My name is Ahmed from Egypt i have Grande Punto 2009 dualogic semi automatic and i discover how far this transmission is poor

I regret to inform you that my experience with my new Grande Punto 2009 was disappointing.
I bought this car after long time comparing between many cars makings, then I decided to buy Grande Punto for its worldwide reputation and as granted automotive car, although it is expensive car and does not have as many features as others.
I bought Grande Punto 2009 with dualogic semi automatic transmission.

I discovered that the car performance is very poor, every time I drive the car I feel disappointed due to its very slow response to pick up speed in automatic mode besides engine stalling every time it changes gear in automatic mode in fact I feel very unsafe to overtake any other car in the road, that is not normal for this type of cars with this price and with the Name of FIAT.
I ask OMATRA the Owner of fiat here in EGYPT, about any new software or adjustment for the this delay in the transmission During the Automatic mode
To speed up in first gear to second and from second to third it takes very long time and the car never accelerate as expected and sometimes the gear does not accept to change from the first to second gear easily it goes to 4500 RPM and sure the car engine become noisy and in low speed the matter that enforcing me to change to manual mood.

Friend of mine reported the same problem and I advised another friend not to buy it for the same defect.
When I visited the agent (OMATRA) to perform 1000km maintenance, I ask them about any new software or adjustment for this delay in the transmission During the Automatic mode? Can I make Fine tuning for it?
, I reported the problem there but it does not seem to get more than temporary complains and simply he said it is the design of this engine.

It is not at all what we expect from great car manufactures like FIAT.
I do believe it is a big problem and in this kind of problems we used to see great companies recalling the cars when failure pattern is there.

I hope to receive a response from you and tell me how I can solve or deal with this problem Can I make Fine tuning for it?
or any one have the same car with dualogic tell me how can i drive it smoothly , i need your opinion

waiting you reply from all

when you break down and you r in 5th gear you will fell with engine break every time reducing from 5 to 4 to 3 to 2

Hey Ahmed..my name is Omar I am a grande punto owner with a dual logic gearbox 2009 model same as yours I am from Egypt Cairo , lstn contact me on my inbox to send you my number so I can help you about your issue because the gear box of the car is excellent & it is just a matter of learning how to deal with it & I will show to you everything about it :)

I don`t beleave that i have here friend from my country .. welcome OMAR
and really i hope that i learn how can i deal with this GEARBOX
check your Inbox here to contact you ASAP

other than the fact it breaks alot, it isnt THAT bad in my opinion.

in manual and mode, the gear changes are very sluggish below 5000rpm, however, if you let it rev past this then it changes gear quickly.

Its not as smooth as a traditional auto gearbox- kick down when you floor it should be instantaneous though in auto mode.

i sold my punto because of the gear box though.

EDIT: you should get engine braking when you change down a gear because it disengages the clutch again, rather than a traditional auto that doesnt when you dont have your foot on the accelerator

Hi Ahmed,

I have same model, same engine with dualogic gearbox. I accept that there is a delay between shifts, but it is not a problem at all, not much difference than an ordinary gearbox.

If you use it in ECO mode, it shifts gear up ad 2000 rpm, and it may not satisfy most drivers.

However, even using it in ECO mode, if you fully throttle the accelerator, it does not shift up until reaching more than 5000 rpm, also this can be an annoyance for most driver.

When you throttle the accelerator, software thinks that you need an urgent acceleration and does not shift up, and mostly it shifts down.

In several days, I believe that you can learn how to control shifting with only controlling the force applied to the accelerator.

If you need urgent acceleration or more torque for hills, depress the accelerator firmly. When you think that it is necessary to shift up, just release it a little.

thanks moosty for this advice i will try on time to learn in this car

Even in AUTO mode you can over-ride the gear selected and move up or down using the gearlever, if necessary.
