lol!!!

You need to be careful with leaving the car running. There's a law that allows for you to get a fine if you have left it idling while without travelling for more than "a couple of minutes". It actually says that too. Can't find it at the moment, but they were talking about it on a local radio station here the other day as it is expected that Councils will start using that one more as takings from parking fines have fallen...

Your absolutely right there is a law. It is that you must not leave your vehicle unattended with the engine running. It comes down to something like you not being in control of the car. Fortunately i would never leave it anyway. I stood with while i drank my coffee. Wouldnt want my gp vanishing! Oh and the insurance company would not pay up.

Up the other morning, -4 in sunny Ayrshire. Turned the key, the beast started, quick scrape and of to work. None of that girly stuff hanging around.

No no, this is a different law. It's specifically aimed at fuel usage. Fuel you have of course purchased, or if this law is to be believed, fuel you have loaned. They can fine you if you are sat in your car with it idling.

Eh?? Confused now. It is an offence to leave you car idling if you are not with the car, say popping inside to wait for it to warm up. I certainly hope im right or im in the wrong profession!

Definitely a different law. This alludes to it by mentioning what show it was discussed on. The main issue that the presenter had with it was the fact that nobody seemed to know about it.

The law you are referring to is different to the one I am mentioning. This is because you can be fined - even when you are in the car... As I said, it is designed to stop people wasting fuel (supposedly) and the radio show had a lot of angry cab drivers coming on and saying that it could potentially catch them out when on taxi ranks, etc.

The other interesting thing was that it also completely contradicts another law which says you have to have a clear field of vision in order to drive. How are you meant to obtain this clear view if you cannot have your car switched on in order to clear the mist on the inside of the windscreen??

Thank god it aint just me then! Thought I had a dodgy heater it takes sooo long to warm the bl*ody thing up! Add in freezing cold leather seats and the skydome (which obviously isn't as well insulted as a normal roof) and it's like sitting in a b@stard freezer for 15 minutes!

I'll swap you for a cloth interior (y)

I always put my fan on cold ( or halfway on the really cold days ) as this allows the engine to heat up faster. Then when the engine temp starts to rise i switch it to lovely warm air :)

My 1.9 GPS doesn't take long to start putting heat through to the cabin, just had the air-con compressor and pipes replaced and re-gassed.
I would probably say about 5 mins till is is putting through warm air but after leaving the house I drive down a NSL road about 2 minutes after helps to warm the engine.

I know my car is a 1.3 mj, but one time last year i drove with the heater off for 10 min to allow the car to warm up to normal on the gauge.

As soon as i turned the heater on it dropped back down to 1/4 of the way, and didnt get warm again for the whole of a 1 hour drive . i think deisels need auxiliary heaters, shame its not an option in the uk
