Hello all, been a regular viewer of the forum but this is the first time I have posted and registered.

My car has developed a flat spot from 0-2500rpm on the turbo. The power doesn't rush through until 2500rpm and from there the turbo kicks in.

Normally this would kick in from say 1700rpm. I have followed the excellent guide on this forum for cleaning the EGR which I have done today but nothing has changed...exactly the same problem.

Any other ideas for tis problem?

Oh, when I cleaned the EGR I noticed one of the valve seals to the between the corrugated pipe to the valve had basically warn to nothing...could this cause a problem?

Any help would be amazing guys...

As above unless you can replace the seal.

Seals are a few quid from FIAT, part no: 46773082 need 4! why not add the new swirl gasket at the same time part no: 71751469 £12 Quid.

Did you make sure the solenoid push pin was free to move? lube it with wd40 or simmilar? and that the EGR valve itself moved freely?

Could be worth testing the EGR away from the car with a 12v supply to make sure that it opens.

Hi guys thanks for this...

I pulled the solenoid push pin on the electrical part of the EGR to clean it...should this spring rapidly? I ask because as I recall it didn't...it did sit back albeit slowly. Not an expert on the EGR,

Could the valve seals make any difference?

What is the new swirl gasket?

Not sure I have the expertise to test the EGR away from the car!

How much are they roughly? It's just under 3 years, take it this isn't a warranty fix!?

Hmm, well it's 31 months old and it's only had it's year 1 service (major due to the mileage)...if I take it in for its 2nd service...will it be covered?

It may well be cheaper to buy the egr!!

Thoughts?

Hope this copies in OK. After lots of searching on the forum (mainly nicked from the Stilo side I think!) I put this together for my garage re the new swirl valve.

I have been some digging

Service news 10.21.08 refers. Apparently we need these gaskets fitting.

Part no for perforated gasket 71751469
Part no for seals (2 required) 46773082

cid:084042410@08092009-2CBE

Costs:
New Gasket = £11.29
Original Gasket = £1.68
(x2)

The lip position isn't too important, Fiat make no mention of it in the manuals, it's to provide more of a surface to clamp against.

The standard EGR gaskets are used throughout the system (item 2 in the pic)- at both ends of the corrugated pipe between the EGR and throttle body, at the pipe that mounts to the underside of the EGR, and where the EGR take-off is on the exhaust manifold.

In theory it should make little difference which end it's fitted (EGR or throttle body) as the connecting pipe is so short, but we both agreed the narrow holes help to keep the gas flowing faster through the
EGR valve and therefore help reduce the carbon deposits inside, so fitting it nearest the EGR makes sense.

I'm loving this whole echo business I've got goin on :slayer:

PS you don't neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed it, it just does help.
PPS prices are a little up from the thread you found.

Also, according to the instructions the Swirl Gasket should be fitted on the EGR side of the tube connecting to the throttle chamber.

I had the swirl valve fitted and my mate has also, made a huge difference and effectively cured the flat spot. Worth doing.

Do we think that new style swirl gasket may solve this problem?

Is it worth using wd40 on the solenoid...as I can remove this without having to take all of the EGR off (in particular that damn pipe and jubilee clip thing at the bottom of the bay!!).

Really appreciate everyones input.

Get someone super thin with super long arms!!

May be worth greasing the solenoid, and you can begin to grease the valve from behind but if your working on it why not do the full job?

Thanks for that.

I cleaned the EGR fully on Sunday, not fancying taking it off again to fit a gasket and lubing up the solenoid that's all, when I reckon I can do it more quickly without taking it completely away from the engine.

Reckon it'll cut the job time in half.

You can get reconditioned egr valve units from fiat for circa £80. Read it on here before that someone fitted the egr off a Saab same engine and the egr was cheaper through Saab than fiat.

I would say get a new egr and fit the swirl gasket whilst at it, I also have the swirl gasket fitted and it makes a noticable difference.. Engine much smoother, best £12 ull spend.

Not being funny but irrelevant of mileage ur car should be having it's 3rd service soon if it's nearly 3 years old, the advised schedule is X mileage or every year which ever comes first!
