Hi peeps,, I have just started gettin loud rattlin like as if i have a large tool box in boot,,,comin from the rear (mostly passengerside) of my grande punto.

Its booked into the dealers next thursday, they sed it might be the mounts or somethin, i tryed lubin the boot door an latch up thinkin it was that rattlin, but wasnt.I even took the tools out of the boot (in the middle of spare wheel) but it wasnt that.

The noise is really loud when i drive on uneven road an ova bumps. My car is a 56 plate an warrenty runs out 29th nov this yr, an i'm worried i will have to pay for this to be fixed (whatever the problem is). ANY IDEA GUYS WHAT THIS COULD BE???

P.S,,,I HAVE JUST SPRAY GREASED THE REAR BUSHES.

Hi hun,,,yeah i have done that. An piled the vaseline on around everythin lol...the noise is comin from left rear..like i have a tool box on left rear wheel :-((( i have just spray greased the bushes,,not sure how long i have to wait (if it is the bushes) till noise stops

Best thing then is just to get in into the dealers while you still can, they will probably try and fob you off, they dont like to spend their time on noises! But really it could be a multitude of things, exhaust, shock absorber, spring pads etc. How many miles has it done?

I have had many varied noises from mine, its always been either dry rear bushes or door latch problems if its come from the back of the car.

EDIT: Also keep in mind the car is in its limited 3rd year warranty now, so they may want to charge for things that arent covered.

hi,,the car has done 24,594miles, the noise is very loud so they cant dismiss it lol,,what i will do tonight is drive around the block with the boot door open,,then i would find out if it is the boot latch lol. i'm sure its not though but its worth a try..see i'm tryin to find out whats wrong with it meself first an try an rectify it to save time goin the dealers..

I'm tryin not to worry as it is only a car lol,,but ya cant help it can ya lol x

Well,,,i have just driven around with the boot open an the noise(clunking) is even louder but think thats because the boot is open,,an the clunkin noise is heard in the cabin of the car lol if yano what i mean so i think it has deffo got somethin to do with the suspension. Its loud metaly clunkin lol..

do you mean the wheel nuts?? if so i will check those tomorra mornin..! thx x

If its more of a rattle than a clunk it could be the exaust headshield (assuming the GP has one).
The Clio Diesles at my last workplace had a terrible problem of the heatshield coming loose and raddling like a tin can with a ball bearing in.

hi,,i have taken everythin out of the boot even the spare tyre lol,,the grande punto's do have an heat sheild underneath where the exhaust is, but the noise is way too loud for it to be that. its a clunkin sound.

i spray greased the bushes the other day,,an its still doin it,,its an awful sound an is way louder when the boot door is up when i drove down the road the other day,, the exhaust is solid,, an heat sheild too..fiat sed it may be the mounts or somethin,,but it went to fiat for an mot a couple of weeks ago an the put new bulbs in the rear middle brake light an my mind is thinkin wether one of the guys may have left a tool of somekind on the little ledge where the water collects in the boot ( on the top) and they may have forgotton to remove an it may have slid down into one of the back lights (if anyone understands what i mean lol), i will check tomorra when i remove the left back light cover,, its buggin me lol

Hi, well yesterday i had taken my car to a local garage for them to check my car ova regarding this clunkin noise,,he put it on the ramp an gave it a good lookin ova and he said there was nothin that he could find that would make the noise...the shocks where fine,,,an the supension was fine, also the exhaust was solid. i have just taken the left rear cluster off an looked behind it,,nothing there.

Its going into fiat tomorra mornin so hopefully they may find out what it is..if not ,,bomby night is comin along hehe:devil:. i will have my own fiat made bombfire lol.

Nah i will just have to live with it an go deaf with the loud music i will have to listen to to drown the clunkin noise out :(

Hola clair80! When you mean on uneven roads, do you mean that the knocking, clunking is in time with the bumps and not related to speed?

If so I had this, but unfortunately I can't tell you what it was, someone crashed into me and its come back fixed! I had exhaust checked as I was told it WAS that! Airbox?

If it is the same, it wont be any of them and I would really really like to know if Fiat know.

Merci

iya:),,well alls i can describe the sound to is,,,its as if i have a box of wheel nuts strapped inside the left of the boot. the noise happens when goin ova bumps an over bumpy surfaces, its doin me head in lol. i've vaselined the boot latch up an even taped leccy tape around the boot latch thingy,,an made sure everythin rattle/clunk proof. when i drove around with the boot opened right up the noise is really really loud because the sound is coming into the cabin. god its wreckin me head lol

Not glass remnants from a broken back window before you had the car? You would hear them fall about every time you open the boot tho...

Rear seat belt reel rattling in the hatch post maybe?

Have you checked the wheel arch liners are secured properly?

Edit :- I remember I thought I had a rattle at the back which turned out to actually be the anti-roll bar drop link on the front....

Seat belt reel is one to check but i'm pretty sure it wouldn't make a noise as loud as shes talking about. I feel your pain. I spent 2 weeks trying to find it. I hoep you get it sorted soon
