I just got in my car (06 1.4 16v sporting) and when i switched the engine on, my fuel gage was saying empty, even though i had just filled up my car to the brim, and on the stereo it was saying 'cancheck':confused:, and on the dash i was saying that there was an airbag failure. I switched my engine on and off but nothing happened, still the same message, so i left the car for 5 minutes and then tried again, and then everything was fine, No messages/warnings. :confused:

Does anybody know why it does this, what does 'cancheck' mean ?

common fault on the earlyer GP's ((had it on mine and mines an 06)

needs a dealer software update dont know what the dealer will charge as i assume its now out of warranty (unless it has a Full fiat service history and you ask them nicely)

Known faults/issues;
It is recommended that the vehicle is correctly checked as this list is only intended as a guide and not applicable in all cases.

Fault -Dashboard lights coming on/off
Cure - requires body computer software update.
Status - very few reports

I am going to go out on a limb now and make a prediction based on a trend I have picked up on over the last 3 years. Now that the weather is on the change and the ambient temperature is in the main dropping I believe we will see an increase in the number of GP owners reporting spurious error messages in this forum......If I am right it will reinforce my theory that the GPs electronics are sensitive to temperature changes.

Lets see what happens as autumn/winter pans out (y)

Probably more to do with the cold inducing condensation to add my 2p to your reasoning

Body computer or battery.
I had both replaced under warranty to cure the problem on my last GP.

Given the colder weather my monies on a voltage issue (battery).

My dad said the exact same although it's done it for the first time today, and suprisingly its been a decent, hot day, so i don't see why it could be that :confused:
