Hi all!

A problem has just occured on my Grande Punto 1.9JTD...

Basically the whistle from the turbo has become rather loud? There has always been a slight whistle under acceleration, however on the drive home today the whistle changed completely. As i said it is now louder and a different pitch all together??

Any ideas on what it could be?? Just hoping the turbo isn't going to go kaput!

Any info would be great!

Cheers

If it sounds like a police siren and getting louder it might be on its way out!

My Mjet is 3 years old and the turbo is ok, my mate is on his second replacement turbo on a 58 Mjet.

Best way to find out is to drop it into a garage for a diagnosis.

When the car is on the drive and i rev it it sounds exactly like a police siren but not when im moving, its just a loud whistle?

I had the car remapped late last year so would you recommend taking the map off before i take it to fiat because the car is still under warrenty?

Yes deffinately, if they find it is a dead turbo then they are going to look for any excuse to not shell out £££. Take it off mate (y)

Mine is loud. Although not when at a standstill. That sounds a bit wierd.

I have a 3 year old 1.9 with 55000 km and a month ago the turbo started sounding like a siren.
I took it to the service and just by hearing it the guy there arranged a replacement which was done under warranty.

I have the paperwork for the money that I did not pay and the total just for parts would be 1050€.

mine started doing that 2 days after picking it up and only 200 miles........happened to snap the intake pipe to the turbo going up a hill, and lots of black smoke later stopped moving! replaced the pipe with a new one and all fixed.

Hi guys!

Just to let you know, picked my car up from Fiat today...Turned out it was the Turbo that was ready to blow...had a new one fitted along with new pipes etc.

The police siren noise is still there slightly when reving at a stand still but i'm guessing this should be ok seen as they've only just fitted the new one.

Cheers for your help.

You could of pulled people over if it sounded like a Police Siren...

Freaked folks out wondering where the car was and held up a cardboard sign saying "Under cover police (Can't afford usual decals/lights 'n shiz due to the recession).
