forge braces on 1.9 multijet

fitted my forge braces today, and it looks like im second person with problems,

when you put your foot down, it vibrates like hell, its the larger of the two braces either catching on the exhaust or bottom of gearbox, yet when the car is stationary and you look under, the brace seems pretty far away from either of the two!!! :-(

any one else with the diesel had these fitted

Angry Re: forge braces on 1.9 multijet

new bigger problem, now there fitted, after a minute of drivin the dash beeps and loads of messages and warning lights come up:

ebd failure
no hill holder
no abs
no power steering?!?!?

how the hell can fitting braces cause this??

the only other thing i did whil i was fitting these braces was fit 5mm hubcentric spacers on the front wheels. could this cause this?? im soooo confused!

Re: forge braces on 1.9 multijet

I actually just got round to fitting them this morning. Had them in my garage for months but got use of my next door neighbours lift to change oil and filter and fit these.

I havnt had any problems yet with vibrations or anything, seems to drive a lot better.

I dont think the braces could have anything to do with those faults, maybe just coincidence?

CAN fault between ABS & EPS,ABS ECU/EPS ECU or more likely brake switch.

i have 215/45/17 on front and rear for past 10k or so without any problems, cant see how its linked! I would say its when you've fitted your hubcentric spacers. As T has said i would bet on the brake switch, when we disconnected this a few times on the stilo it caused all hell lighting up on the dash and every now and them would cut power from the car sending it into limp home mode. 30 quid later for a new switch and all was good? They are so sensitive..

Did you fit the spacers for clearance, cause i havent had any problems with wider tyres? Have you changed ur bolts now? are they long enough now you've got the spacers on?

Or have you not tightened them enough, causes vibrations when driving - i know ive done this when in a rush and forgot to tighten them properly. Just problem shooting in my head.. Would probaly be the bolts not being long enough now uve got the hubcentric spacers? and i bet the brake faults are the brake switch sensor

yes T, at the time i needed new tyres there were no 205-45 tyres in stock so i opted for 215-45 and put them on rear, and 215 40 17 on front, and yesterday i swapped them all round.

update:

all warning lights have gone, i just disconnected battery for ten mins, then reconnected and went for a spirited drive. sorted :-)
