Re: forge braces on 1.9 multijet

This is very strange, as we've probably sold ~40 sets to diesel M-jet owners all over the world with no problems. When we heard of the first car having problems, we specifically got an M-Jet in the shop, but no matter what we did, we couldn't get it to knock. Theres about 25-30mm of space between the gearbox and the brace.
My only thought is a shot engine mount. If you're seeing 25-30mm of movement at the bottom of the engine, then the top will be seeing at least the same which doesn't sound right ?
Of course, you are welcome to return the braces for a full refund.

Re: forge braces on 1.9 multijet

Surely if you have a different rolling diameter on front and rear wheels abs will log a speed sensor fault due to discrepency front to rear?
Surprised its taken this long to happen though?
Might happen again though.

Re: forge braces on 1.9 multijet

You dont need hubcentrics when the spacers are that small. Still plenty left on the hub for the wheel to seat.

maybe so,but id much prefer hubcentric regardless of size, they are easier to work with , seat firmly on hub, which makes putting wheel back on a hell of alot easier, for a tenner i cant complain

Re: forge braces on 1.9 multijet

Exactly the same to work with when that small lol. Probably more of the hub left to seat on with just a normal 5mm spacer anyway. But no for a tenner you cant go wrong. Was that including longer bolts?

Re: forge braces on 1.9 multijet

Started to notice a nasty vibration noise when flooring the car through first and second or going through 1st and 2nd gear pretty quick.

Didnt notice it at all unless your driving hard. Just not to sure which one of the bars could be fouling, the smaller one is a good bit off the exhaust etc. Any ideas?

Re: forge braces on 1.9 multijet

I fitted these braces last tuesday and had a horibble banging when accelerating.. We put the car on the ramp the next morning and it appears that both bars are fouling. The longer front one hits the gearbox mount quite hard and the shorter rear one just touches the exhaust flange.
The guys here were going to 'alter' the mount slightly but we decided that we'd try a new rear gearbox mount as Fiat have superseded the number (50510781). So assuming that they did this for a reason we went ahead and.....

Now it only knocks 1-2 & 2-3 with some extremely vigorous driving.. and only a very brief knock.

It would appear that the Mjet's have the problems due to the huge difference in torque..

I think its either a case of altering the mount or having a new mount made with a solid or much harder compound rubber put in.

We'll be altering my mount in the near future so I'll get some pics of the result.
