Im going to get two steelies for my GP and put winter/snow tires on them so I can throw them on the front if it gets bad because of what happened last year. i.e. stuck for two days:bang:.

What size are the steelies that are on the GP??

What size tyre do I put on it to match overall same diameter as current wheel.

I need the narrowest tire possible for the steelie as that will be best for the snow.

Meh snow chain only really good for deep snow and then they are terrible on little to no snow, I drive 20 miles each way to work on fast roads and couldnt use snow chains on the off chance it looked like it might snow.

Snow tires are amazing, I dont know how they do it but they are amamzing. My friend in Norway had snow tires on his standard 2wd golf. (by snow tires I dont mean with metal studs or anything like that, they just looked like normal tires) I couldnt belive how good the were, We were driving on top of about 1foot of compacted snow going up steep hills no problem and coming down steep hills slam the brakes on and the car just stopped dead, on snow! from what looks like a normal tire.

They are only £30 from camskills so defo going to do it.

Ive found a calculator for changing tires sizes to match original.

Can some one please with Steelies tell me their tyre size....

What other steelies fit a GP? I know they share some vauxhall fitments so if I went to a scrapy would old corsa wheels fit? Anyone shine any light on this?

I dont think 14's would fit. I had clio 15's on mine last winter and they were just clearing the caliper within a few mm

ooh thanks for that info!! I wouldnt have spotted that. Ill head down the scrappy and look for 15/s 16/s off an astra. shouldnt be too hard.

Yeah you will need 15s to fit over the front brakes.

what about actives? I've been thinking of doing the same as Beany for a while just never got round to doing it......


so far i have

PCD of 4X100mm

56.5mm centre bore

just need to get the offset and im off to the scrappies for 4 steelies

45 i think. Should say in your manual. Can go down to et30 without and problems i would reckon. My rear wheels are ET 22 atm and they are fine.

will dig the manual out tomorrow
