While most folk would say that Toyotaprius was a disease, not a car, the green nutters who own them say it is the most efficient car on the market. (They usually have a) non-jobs b) no connection with the world of technology c) can speak indefinitely without saying anything) .

I have just been studying the spec. for the new 1.6 Sporting Multijet which must be at the top of "the most efficient car on the market list" :-

* Euro 5
* 120bhp
* 119grams Co2
* 62.8mpg
* 0-60 in 9.6 secs
* 118mph

AND you do not have to manufacture or dispose of huge batteries causing environmental mayhem. DIESEL - the fuel of the future !

Truthfully, the Multtijet designers have arrived at the Holy Grail. I prostrate myself before them. Halleluyah !

Does anybody know more about this outstanding engine, and in particular is it chain-drive or belt to the camshafts ?

My missus's panda uses less fuel than that.

For sure but a Panda is tiny in comparison and doesn't produce 120bhp, tbh I think they've done a great job to be as Co2 efficient as the 1.3MJ unit and to get 630m from a single tank sounds ideal for some people. And lets be perfectly honest - the Prius is also butt ugly, we all know the GPS is a good looking car.

Thanks EKLIPZE£K and FFOXY.

Now here's another gobsmacking statistic which will have Toyotaprius sufferers reeling - FIAT GET 236lb/ft TORQUE FROM LESS THAN 1600 CC !!

Lo and Behold a Prancing Horse!

I think I will have to put my head in the freezer !

BMW makes a very economical and powerful Diesel too.

But the Fiat unit is fantastic, and the new 1.3 Multijet2 looks to be even better.

Am I right in saying FIAT invented the common rail system, or was it Bosch. Also, can any technical chum enlighten us - does the 1.6 twin cam MJ have a chain drive to the camshafts or a belt ?
