You have good reason not to believe me however in all truthfullness my uncle is operations manger in europe for international paints who make both hammerite and japlac.

Hammerite in his own words, is basically garage floor paint mixed with a high temp compound. He says paint is a scam because they take basically the same paint and change labels and people pay double for it.

Hammerite drys soft and looses its colour very quickly. Its ideally designed for the likes of radiators not brake callipers (mind neither is japlac) however japlac leaves a better finish. It also has a hammered affect meaning brake dust will stillckto it more easily hence why they brought out 'smoothrite'.

I just wouldnt recommend it on what my uncle said, which is why we used japlac instead. Ill put a photo up of the japlac finish, if i can work out how.

So! an expert comments on the theory of paying extra for "special" paint may just possibly be a marketing ploy by paint manufacturers!, well who would have though it?:)

Got a few pics this morning of the callipers. I feel obliged to admit though that after driving 40 miles today my driver side calliper had some strange faded spots on it, probably to do with the heat? The passenger side is still great i may just need another coat on the drivers side! Let the 'told you so' begin...

I have some photos though from the callipers on the passenger side after driving, they are quite small and i dont know how to get them bigger so any help would be nice for future uploads. Just click on the thumbnails to increase the size!

International make fantastic boat paint for hulls and the like. I wouldn't put anything else on my boat it is seriously the dogs. Any enthusiast will tell you its the ONLY boat paint.

Didnt know they owned hammerite thou.

Pics look good to me, like I did put a couple of good coats on to get the depth of colour and nice glossy finish.
BTW its been a couple of weeks since mine were painted, round about 200 -250 miles in all stop start commutting traffic and guess what I just checked and they're all still lovely and shiny, not burnt away as some feared.

Car brakes can reach over 400 degrees! i wouldn't risk botching it just to save £10.

Just been from home in Staffs to Milford Haven in Wales, cross country, all high speed whenever the chance arose, loads of heavy braking and loads of heat from brakes, over 370 miles round trip on real driving roads.
Power washed car as soon as I got home, smothered with brake dust as you would expect in the wheels and calipers coated thick, guess what calipers came up like new again, no burned off paint, not even discoloured.
Not bad for a botched job eh???;)

Yeah maybe botched was a bit harsh! but i'm talking long term damage caused by the heat. can you upload a piccy of them?

Sorry not clever enough to upload pics, barely mastered taking them!
But its a month nearly since calipers were painted, about 600 miles ago, and I really gave them a workout to Wales and back with no visible probs at all.

Ok i've decided to go with orange calipers as i'm gonna have the wheels done black soon... but where the hell can i get high temp / hammerite in orange? ive found a caliper kit but those things are so overpriced!

Any sort of paint will do! im going to do mine soon and all im guna have to do is sand the caliper down a bit, spray some white primer and then do a couple of coats of colour. simples
