Have an 06 1.2 with a bad steering fault, when turning the wheel the car starts steering for itself and when you let go whilst driving or even when stationary the car will spin the wheel half a turn to the left. sounds awful whilst doing it.

My thinking is that since I've found a bolt on the floor in the wheel well the electric steering motor has dropped a bolt allowing the motor to rotate or at least try and self align iself

Is this a common problem? Dont want to dismantle half the dash if someone can tell me that it is/ isnt that!!

This is the response I was hoping for - a known fault!

Thanks guys, does it need fiat diagnostic/repair on it or can my father do it? Hes the trader/mechanic who bought it. Is it a recall option or how much does it cost roughly any idea?

If you've still got any warranty it'll be covered usually. It's not a recall.

While they aren't difficult to do, you really need the Fiat equipment to calibrate and proxi align the new unit.
