I've seen a few threads about people having this issue - every time I opened the rear hatch after it rained I got water pouring out of the rubber bump-stops, so the hatch was filling up with water. Not good!

Just FYI - for me it turned out to be poorly sealed rear glass.

But much kudos to Lipscombe of Maidstone. They immediately diagnosed the problem, so removed the glass and refitted it. They did an excellent job, all on warrenty, no questions asked, no forms to fill in, no fuss, they just sorted it. First class service :)

At long last mine was also fixed by taking the glass out and resealing, not a particularily neat job but at least no more water(y) That was after having seams sealed, High level brake light replaced, tail lights refitted and resealed, wiper seal replaced, and a couple of other things that I can't remember.

To my mind the main cause of aggrevation was that Fiat didn't want to take ownership of the problem, and left the dealer with his A--e hanging in the breeze.
I also wasn't very impressed when trying to get hold of customer care to complain I was put through to someone in Italy!
You were lucky in having it fixed first time, mine took 15 days spread over 12 months:cry: I shall think very carefully when it's due for replacement next year.

Not 100% true, most water leak tailgate issues were easily sorted in half hour.

Unlike mine. Two years on. All the fixes fiat has to offer and still pours out water when open. :bang:
Only advise i can offer any fellow leaky tailgate sufferers is keep an eye out for any bubbling paintwork along the bottom of the bootlid indicating the good old tinworm. hope mine is an isolated case.

My leaky boot, was caused by the crap welding around the edge of the tailgate. There are gaps in places ( mainly corners) that water can easily get in.

I sealed right round it with clear silicone, along with the high level brakelight, and the rear wiper grommet.

No more water from rubber bungs, or water on the parcel shelf. :D

With the greatest respect you were not party to mine and the Dealers conversations with Fiat, if they were eager to own the problem why did I, and so many owners have to make repeated visits to get the problems solved? with some owners who are still having problems, as reading this thread shows.
I can understand you being defensive of Fiat, but I'm speaking of what my own experience entailed, so I'd appreciate it if you don't call me a liar, no matter how politely you put it.

1) where did I call you a liar? (as moderator I dont get involved on such a level but merley present hthe facts where known from personal or from others)

2) I stated in 'MOST' cases the leak is sorted in half hour, obviously there are exceptions like yourself and a few others here/in this thread.

Please read posts more carefully before jumping to conclusions.

Not jumping to conclusions, and it's pretty obvious that your assertion that most cases the leak is sorted in half an hour, doesn't square with the number of owners whose cars haven't been cured within that time scale who have posted on this subject, does anyone have any idea just how many GP's have had this problem?
In previous correspondence on this subject you are very defensive, part of the reason why I don't usually bother to post on here now.
It's not so much what you say as the way you say it.

Come on people don't turn another thread into an argument like usually happens ;)

This is where i recon my leak is so I'm going to seal with clear silicone today and hope for the best.
After 6 visits under warranty i never got mine sorted. I let the missus get the shopping out when its raining :D

PS, MONKEY SAY HI.(y)

but your can easily reverse that, how many GP's dont have any leak or the ratio of leaks to cars produced

Yes I suppose I am but I have very good reasons for that.

Post away dont let me put you off, I like to think I do more good than harm.

It's not so much what you say as the way you say it.

Or the way you read it;)

Hi trawled through this forum and found a number of similar things but there doesnt seem to be a definitive fix as far as I can see. Anyway just discovered my wifes car has about 3 inches of water in the spare wheel compartment, and under the carpet is wet in the offside rear passenger footwell, noticed many of you have had problems and many seem to have taken their cars to their dealers. Ours is out of warranty and I am hoping to try and fix myself so would appreciate if anyone could point in the direction of the most likely culprit, or do I just go round everywhere with the silicone?Did notice a nmuber of references to leaking roof seal, is that the black strip that runs along the length of the roof?

thanks any help much appreciated

cheers

check the rubber tube grommet at the top of the boot on the left hand side (also does your rear screen wash work properly or does it dribble out?)

also rear light clusters (there is a foam rubber seal behind them look in the Guides section there is a replace bulb thread there with a vid i posted showing how to remove)
