Its been a couple of days that my 1.9 has developed a very slight but still noticeable whine while on 6th gear. It immediately stops when on other gear or when I hit the clutch. It is more pronounced when the car is hot.

The car has 52000km and is chipped for the last 40000km with 165BHP and 360NM on a RR. I am quite gentle with the car and I do not thrush it except in some rare cases.

On Monday it is booked for a checked at the dealer.
Could it be something simple or is the gearbox dying?

I guess it depends on what kind of whine it is. Do you feel any difference in the car when the whine occurs? I notice you have the 1.9 like me, I would say that the sound of the turbo kicking in at ~2500rpm is like a whistle/whine (which I personally like to hear). But I guess if it was the turbo noise you'd have noticed it by now. Just a thought anyway

No it is not the turbo. The whine is heard only on 6th gear on all rpm on light or heavy throttle.
