When the car is stationery at lights or waiting to pull off and my blowers are on theres a faint smell of fumes coming in through the vents. Anyone else had this problem and any idea what could be causing it. Bit worried with it being first car, so have no idea what it could be.

just had a quick flick through the forums and is it possible it could be the breather pipe? if so WHERE THE HELL is this lol and il have a look tomoro. ny ideas how much a new one of these wud cost?

its the pipe that comes out of the back top of the engine (rocker cover) and goes into the back of the air box....

I have had this too, but there is also a bottom pipe too.

First time the top one was changed and done again on the bottom one a few months later.

Done under warranty at my dealer in Ayr.

which you should of done in first place!.........however short pipe s £8 & longer pipe at rear (as sboy66 stated) is £24

Spoke to WW service manager when mine was done and he advised that the price for the pipes was crazy for what they are.

Just thought I'd reopen this thread with my story.

Less than 1 year ago (Nov 08) I had to have the top pipe replaced. The car was in it's 3rd year of warranty and therefore I had to pay for it. £8.00 is nowt and the dealer happily fitted for free - 2 minute job. The pipe has now gone again so off to my dealer to claim a new one under the parts warranty. Not that easy. It has to be booked in for them to do (understandable I suppose as its a warranty claim) but the labour is chargeable! 'Cheaper to buy the pipe' says the dealer. Now maybe I'm being naive here but why should I pay for labour for them to replace an item thats turned out to be faulty?

So being pig headed I told him to forget it - I'll go and get some suitable pipe and do it myself, (the inside dia is 15/16mm if anyone wants to do the same).

He's actually being honest (and trying to save you dosh) , buy pipe & do it yourself as you cant expect garage to give out free labour (time) BUT a nice gesture would be to do it for free as it can be easily done in 2 minutes (quicker than most sets of wiper blades) & you would think "thats kind of them, decent garage i'll come here for all my work":)
