Hi all

Couple of silly questions, but does anyone else find that when driving their GP on a long journey, their right leg is really painful after a while? My GP does not have cruise control (which if anyone knows anything about fitting retrospectively please tell me! :worship:) and after having it on my car before I do miss it.

My journey was 140m there and 140m back all done in one half day with a couple of hours break between the two trips and maybe 20 miles of driving when I was back in London. Surely this should not leave me virtually incapacitated?! :( I know it sounds like that is an exaggeration, but I literally couldn't drive/walk toward the end of the day!

Ta, G

I find mine less comfortable than some other cars of this size, Clios have good seats for example. It took me ages to find a good driving position and to be honest its no problem now. I have often done 400 miles in 1 go and get out feeling tired but not that uncomfortable, its nowhere near as good as old cars though, the seats are bit a firm and there isnt enough thigh support due to the flat base. Lumbar support should be adjustable on all the seats too, thats my biggest grumble with long distance drives.

Waeco magic speed cruise control can be fitted. http://www.waeco.com/en/298_1340.php

I drove to montecarlo and i stopped and thought, i havnt once had to shed a thought as to whether or not im uncomfortable. Apart from the base being abit flat I think the seats are really comfortable, expecially on longer journeys

hmm
The base could be more angled to support the front bit of your upper leg. The biggest cause of discomfort I find is the footwell simply isn't long/deep enough (Italian short legs, long back thing). Can't say I've ever found it that painful. Got a longish drive next weekend though (140 miles) so will be able to comment more then. Mine has the lumbar support though which has definatly been a plus over my active :)

Mine has a lumbar support and leather seats which seem to be very comfortable (more so than the normal ones), which is why I was so surprised. I can walk now and drove it for a little today and was fine. I did notice just how much I am moving my legs around now to drive and the pedals are fairly high  Maybe that did it?

I know that my Astra was good on my legs, but it hated my back. Guess I am just awkward lol.

I actually find mine alot comfier and easier to drive than any of the cars i've had previously...just seems to crunch the miles! Guess it's down to personal preference though and what you've had before...definately take some time to set up the seat etc properly though, it makes a big difference!

I think mines really comfortable, better than a lot of the other cars ive had to drive for 300 mile round trips...

did 140 mile round trip in an astra this weekend though, and my ankle/ calf (sp) are killing me due to the angle of the accelerator, and how much more you have to push the clutch in than the other pedals

Does the OP have any underlying back troubles?

I am well over 6 feet tall and have done 51,000 miles in my GP with no discomfort at all on long trips such as up to Scotland and regular trips down to Laaandan.

I find mine fine. No issues having recently covered 1500 miles in a week in it. I do have the electric lumbar support on mine as well, which is good. My old car was a Focus 2.0 Ghia with leather. That was fairly comfortable but their was no side support on the seats and you used to slide on the leather as it was cheapo leather. I do miss cruise control though.

I have no prior back problems, the seats in the Astra just seemed to need adjusting all the time. Never seemed to hold the same position.

I guess you only learn these things about a car when you live with it for a bit. That said, I am still pretty happy - even though my car does make lots of weird and annoying noises; cripples me; and the Blue and Me lady, like all women, does not listen to what I actually say! Don't tell Mrs 001 that :D

I can say what my speed was I would get raped by the internet police. On the way there i did 200miles to 3/4 of a tank. On the way back i did 200miles to just over a half a tank sitting at 70 for 80% of the way and then i got bored.

It's not my RIGHT leg I have problems with in my Punto.

But the LEFT lag has nowhere to go during long journeys. That stupid footrest (usually found in automatics) just stops my leg stretching out.

So I was delighted about 1 month ago when I noticed that the footrest had become unclipped and the centre bolt was loose (obviously I had kicked it too many times).

I removed the bolt and the whole footrest thing came away (easy enough to refit when I sell).

Since then I have had no problem with (left) leg room! Wish I had done this 3 years ago.

My opinion on the foot thing changes a bit actually. I tend to find myself using sometimes, then tucking my foot round the side so I can stretch for a bit.

If you hate it on this car, don't get a VW. Some having them on both the clutch side and accelerator side!
