I am in the process of having the steering rack replaced under warranty, Fiat asked me to pay for the tracking though. List price at the dealer is £34.95!

Was anybody, who had his steering rack replaced, asked to pay for tracking allignment etc?
 
Under the terms of the 3rd year warranty there is an exclusion relating to routine adjustments made necessary by fair wear and tear. It could be argued that a tracking adjustment is exactly that! and maybe its this clause they are hiding behind.
I would argue the point Dave made about it being a requirement of the job, if they wont play ball dont get drawn in, just pay the money, get some names and an explaination why they are making the charge and then get onto customer services. Tell them you have a warranty dispute with the dealer and they will act on it...but dont hold your breath.

What made you get it replaced? I'm having trouble with mine, but the dealers insist its just the plastic cover :rolleyes:

each time I was driving on road undulations, such as cobbled roads or unevenly levelled roads, I could hear knocks, like a dry creak. Thought it was suspension related, but it wasn't. When I told the dealer in Swansea, they could not find anything wrong with it. When I told LC Motors in Cwmbran, their mechanic sat on the driver's seat, switched the engine off, and moved the steering wheel left and right by small fractions, the noise was quite pronounced.

I understand that the car is three years old and by replacing the steering rack, tracking will be needed, but why should I be charged for it? Surely if the steering rack was good, I would not have to pay for tracking, let alone pay for it. Funny thing is, I replaced my tyres a month ago and tracking was checked and was fine at the time...

I'll take the matter with Fiat Customer Services, hopefully they'll see my point.
 
Just received a call from the dealer, they said that Fiat UK will pay for the tracking, so, happy days!:D
