Hi there - started getting a groaning/whining noise from what I think is the steering. Grande punto 06 model. If i hold steering in certain postition and slightlymove from side to side, I can catch the point it makes the sound. Any ideas what it could be?

thanks

chris

Its out of warrnanty now! V. miffed! If had happened a few weeks ago I would have been OK,but thats the luck I have!

Sledge - can the pump you displayed on the link be put on seperatleythen? I've heard that the steering column needs replacing as well. Is this true or false?

I honestly dunno mate, suggest you give BBA a call and ask them. As for the Examiner thing hhhmmmm? A lot of mystery surrounds it. I have heard a lot of stories and rumours about this thing and would be reluctant to believe anything without researching it myself. Any good independent garage will have the job detailed on Autodata and be able to tell you whats involved, how long the job will take and if they are capable of and have the gear to carry out the calibration.

The independent garage I use is part of this group.. http://www.boschcarservice.co.uk/ ..and have access to the latest Autodata release and diagnostic gear. I was once told in this forum that only Fiat dealers could reset the service light on my GP via Examiner yet my "Bosch" independant garage managed to do it with no issue using their non-Fiat equipment, hence my skepticism regarding any claims surrounding the subject of Examiner and what can only be done by Fiat dealers.

Make a few phone calls and ask a few questions find things out for yourself (y)

Last year I got my car serviced by a main dealer, they didnt reset the service light, this year I had it done by a Alfa/Fiat specialist who did reset the service indicator.

Yeah - think i'm going to see if it gets any worse first............

Been quoted 420 + vat for fitting. Second hand scrap part 125 + VAT but only a 30 day warranty. does anybody think its worth a gamble,or do you think its best to go all new............?

Answers on a postcard.........

Sorry - my experience was this did get worse.

I was finally prompted to bite the bullet when it started pulling to the nearside as well which made me a little nervous.

I'd go for a recon unit from BBA Reman as you'll get a warranty then.

They were only just starting to look at doing the GP's when mine went so I had to buy new :(

Not impossible to do as a diy job if you have the tools but the car does need to 'phone home' afterwards via the Fiat Examiner system.
