Hi everyone,
I finally took the plunge the other week and bought a 1.2 active with 18,000 miles on the clock and registered in september 2007 for a modest £5.5k.

I would like to know a few thingsl
It is the model before the red badge facelift and would like to know if I could use the new funky replacable key covers or not?

I am also getting the Ipod connection kit fitted and want to know how exactly does it work? Do I basically get a USB hub and it acts like a CD player using playlists?

I also understand that you can get alloys fitted for it, would changing them to genuine fiat alloys void the manufacturers warranty as it doesn't come with them as standard and if i get a set do I have to declare it on my insurance as a "mod"?

Regards

Chris

search in the guides and about alloys i have put standard 15" on and ihavnt declared the on the insurence and it doesnt void the worrenty plus if you do have to cllaim on the insurence just say well wen i brought the car they where already on ;)

Hi & Welcome,

As far as I know: ...

1) No, I don't think you will be able to use the new keyfob covers
2) USB socket, plug in your MP3/Ipod etc and it will play the music as a playlist.
3) Yes, you can fit alloys. It wouldn't invalidate your complete warranty, plus if your buying them from a FIAT dealer then just ask them. And, yes you would have to declare it as a mod' on your insurance because they arn't standard. Not many people do, but you should.

Hope that helps, but im sure other members will give their advice too.

i havent with my alloys and when i had my accident thy turned round and said o looks lyk you need a new alloys no questions asked. i think aslong as youhave fiat alloys and the fiat centre caps they just assume they are standard but thats me guessing

That excuse doesn't wash with insurers. If you don't declare it invalidates your policy full stop. Also if caught you will be put on an insurance black list which makes it very difficult and expensive to get insurance in future.

Mines got the ipod connection, but ive only got an ipod shuffle which has an ordinary mp3 player output, the ipod shuffle needs a different connector. Ironicly the one i have, but dont need. I need the other one, so i dont know about steering controls. but since its connected through the back of the stereo I would presume yes.

This is the one I need

you can get one of the funky key covers...except you would have to buy a funky key...and then pay fiat to program it to the car...all in all gonna cost you a few hundred quid just for the sake of a key! :(

When I bought my car at the beginning of April, here are the prices I got.

AC Aberdeen quoted me £135 for a remote key, that includes coding. Not sure if this includes VAT. The parts guy said all new key prices include coding. I didn't ask how much it would cost for coding if I bought the key from somewhere else.

The "funky" replacement key cases are £32.78 including VAT. If you buy the replacement case from AC Aberdeen, they will change it for free. If you buy it from somewhere else, they charge £10 including VAT.

I ended up not getting the stuff, but it was good to know the prices. I wasn't really interested in the "funky" replacement covers, but I was interested in the prices.
