Haha, I'll be staying at home and commuting to Bath - thus saving money on accommodation and food and bills - my Mother has decided I pay rent by doing the housework. Sounds good to me!

I am a newbie too (just signed up) and already I am interested in this post as the Mrs has ordered the 1.3 90BHP Diesel due to the cheap road tax and fact it's for just round town

Look forward to chatting more often and swapping posts

for town driving you might aswell have got the petrol model as diesels are more for longer commutes unless the 1.3 is good round town but my diesel is just the same as a petrol

This is were some people go wrong with diesels and short runs, you dont get that 'economy' out of it. It also aint a good idea to short runs in a diesel. But you have a Fiat so i'll let you off (y)

It was gutless and I was having trouble overtaking lorries on the motorway - truely awful car.

Yeah, I hate picking up speed in it - I got over taken by a 15 year old Corsa yesterday - it looked like the back was gona fall off. Quite embarrassing tbh.

That's why I've insisted I get my own car asap and with my own choice of specs!

One more question, (forgive me for being incredibly thick:eek:) but when the insurance people say "modifications" - that is only to do with the performance and power of the car.. not things like changing the headlamps?

emily it means anything that makes the car non-standard.

for example: if the car you buy hasnt got alloys then if you put a set of alloys on it is classed as a mod. or spoiler, or remap etc.

best advice is to keep it standard while you build up no claims.
