hi, i have a 2006 gps and i was driving home and it had no power between idle and 3000rpm then it got power then it got less 3500rpm to 4000rpm now it has no power like did before, it now smokes, i have a feeling its the turbo but not sure, any ideas what it could be?? any info would be good thanks. Lewis

If i was you i'd goto a service garage asap for a diagnostic!

Has your turbo ever gone? Is it remapped?

im planing on going tomorrow, ive only owned the car since march the turbo looks likes its been replaced but cant be sure, it hasnt been remapped, to get to the garage its rougly 20 miles would it be safe to drive or be towed?? Lewis

you can drive it but dont rag it sounds like it could be turbo what colour was the smoke ?

hi, i got it in to my dealer and they've told me it's the EGR valve that has failed, they said should have the parts in tomorrow :D, is this somthing that anyone has had of before?? Lewis

YES! I had my GPS from new, 2006 model and i think the EGR went roughly a year ago and to my horror it has gone again today. Have had nothing but issues with that, been towed to the dealer 3 times since i owned and driven by me many more. I had the problem with the EGR valve just before the 36k service and when i took it back a few weeks later for a service i had a massive bill for nearly 300quid that included a whole load of oils. I like this car a lot for its drive (when it works) and have so far stuck with it but am loosing my patience now. And the dealer always gives me some old banger that they have knocking about as a courtesy car and they are supposed to be the best dealer in the uk or something, think not!

Yes but when the car supplied is defective, then they should at least put you in a similar position to what you are now, thats the philosophy with my partners Mini dealer. Im talking bad though, they are non franchise makes usually, like Datsun or Daihatsu. I have been stopped by the police whilst driving them twice, once for a defective tyre and the other for defective rear lights. Is that any position to be put in?I think not. I always think that when a car is bought it should be fit for purpose and mine is not and would expect a courtesy car to compensate me for my inconvenience after all i didnt pay for a car to be without it because Fiat couldnt build it right did i? Am i really be unreasonable there?

Look guys, @ tango2007, bunglebear and Tym....
The EGR valve is more likely to get blocked up depending on your driving style, the fuel used and type of driving environment, modern diesels (all makes NOT just Fiats) dont like slow town driving environments, they are made as mile munchers not shopping trolley school drop busses etc.
If you bought the wrong car boo-hoo to you but FFS stop whingeing! Change to a petrol car!

48,000 miles here and no Turbo issues, no EGR issues, no DPF issues (is there one?) plenty MPG plenty get up and go FFS the car is brilliant and NEVER gets used as a town trundler, grocery delivery van or school bus!

It munches miles and delivers smiles! :D

Keep counting your lucky stars.

Flip a coin Tym, am I lucky or others unlucky? Remember this Forum see's mainly people who have a fault, not those who dont, bearing in mind how many are happily bombing about and NOT on the Forum complaining I would suggest some are un-lucky, or meet the criteria I mentioned in my Post 12 above.

More like the "majority" are unlucky.

Keep touching wood.

How do you arrive at that conclusion Tym tell me?

I can see from your other Posts you have become disenchanted, try some other car makes then balance your view against what you experience, I can tell you they all have problems, some dealer networks deal with them better yes but no car maker is fault free, Fiats are cheap... guess why?

Because the build quality is cheap. Fiats are made for people who enjoy breaking down. We are british and we seek dissappointment! Fiat is the way to go ;)

Fiat know for sure your car will FK up during 3 years and FK up even more after! Thats why they have put 5 years warranty on them now! they know how bad they are.

Fiats are sold to people who dont like to or cant spend much on a car, a lot get neglected for that very reason. Not suggesting thats you mate at all but it does tend to influence the way a car behaves and performs.

I agree Fiat could source some parts better, run tighter QC checks at manufacture, and pay more out to dealerships for work done on Customers cars to give them that Feel Good factor, but that would all add cost.

On balance I would bet that more are happy with their choice, but are still disappointed when something goes wrong. I've taken a leap of faith with my car, it should have been gone this month for a smaller petrol car (Swift or similar) but I have been on the Forums for all the cars under consideration and trust me they all say similar things to what Fiat owners do on here, but most pay a lot more for their troubles than we did!
