My MJET Sporting (June 2006) was in need of new tyres today. As my tyre fitter was doing the job, he noticed the nearside front shock absorber was leaking oil. He told me that the shock absorber is in need of replacement and that I have to replace both front absorbers.

My question is: Will that be covered under the third year warranty?
And: Is it normal for a shock absorber to fail after 46k miles, mostly m'way and A-roads?

I am calling Fiat tomorrow to enquire, in the meantime any response will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers(y)

By the way, the springs are fine!

Just received a call from Fiat earlier today, shock absorbers are not covered under the 3rd year warranty.

Gutted...

Took my car for servicing and had one shock absorber at the front replaceed under warranty because it was leaking. On jacking the car the Fiat DET reported that both rear shock absorbers were leaking too, thankfullt Fiat warranty is replacing them.

I also had both front springs replaced under warranty, despite only one of them being snapped at the bottom. I am a bit crossed as to why Fiat does not replace both front shock absorbers, the car has done 45k miles, yet they will only replace the faulty one. Then again, with regards to springs, they replaced them both, although only one of them was snapped!

I feel Fiat warranty is only doing their minimum with regards to customer service... I simply hope the other shock absorber will last a bit, I can hardly afford paying for a new one, especially at £85 plus VAT per shock absorber!

I can not understand why three shock absorbers and one coil spring failed within 45k miles. The vast majority of my mileage is done on Motorway and A-roads, I hardly hit any sleeping policemen on very nearly all trips... Yet when I talked to Fiat customer services, they simply did not wanna know...(n)

my advice to fellow Fiat Forum users with MJET Sportings is to simply check your suspension components before your warranty exprires. There may be a nasty surprise for you...
