Hi all, just wanting to check this is right. I imagine it is but...

I didn't have my Grande serviced in the 1st year (low milage) does this deem my warranty void? and if so, if i was to now get it serviced (just over 2yrs old) would that then redeem my warranty as all parts and such are back to full working order??

Thanks for any help.

Hi and Welcome to The Fiat Forum!

Could be a bit iffy on the Warranty front missing the important 1st service, depends really on your dealer. There are some really clued up guys on here who can give you info right from the horses mouth.

Ok thanks guys. I missed it basically because my dashboard didn't flash and shout at me to get it done!! lol. I thought it was just a first service at 18k or when it starts needing the MOT. Noob I know!!

I know that now!!

To cut a long story short. It's been back to Dealership countless times. There's, knocking over bumps, the dashboard creaks and knocks, the door lock failed completely and wouldn't keep the door closed (it flapped about), the back brakes make the known fault grind/noise etc etc.

For the back brakes squeeling/noise it apparently had the dampers done. However it has been in to fix them 4 times now and its still doing it. I've kinda just given up now and hence its been neglected. I have no faith in taking it back to get fixed so i dont bother.

And so, its just costed me £130 for 4 new spark plugs as they were battered and the EMS light was flashing. Diagnostics and all that bumped up the price (apparenty) and I unknowingly ran it dry of oil which i think is the reason the plugs got smashed.

I know its all my fault but i've neglected it basically because im sick of it not working right. i got to a point where i thought screw it i dont care anymore and ignored it. :(

i checked it but not regularly, i didn't know oil needed topping up that regularly. i suppose the good thing is ive learnt now, albeit the hard way. I'm gonna start really looking after it, but just not a FIAT.

Since the oil was topped up about 2 months ago the mechanic has said it needs topping up again urgently? Should oil be being burnt that quickly?

You should check oil weekly/every other week. As you have run it dry once yes it will probably drink it faster and you will have worn everything down in the engine so dont be suprised if it goes bang or headgasket goes soon.

You have a poor dealer if they couldn't fix those few issues which to me sound fairly common TBH. A situation not improved by your mistake. I would suggest you find another Dealer, it doesnt look good for future reliability of your car, remember the car is a dumb mutha, it needs you to look after it like a baby. Doing otherwise is costly.....

I think you "ran your car into the ground" as they say.

Think the best thing for you is to write it off. Allthough obviously i wouldn't condone doing it deliberatly.

In what way? does that mean it's knackered now end of?

It's the 1.4 16v Sporting. I didn't run it too badly dry. As soon as the low oil pressure warning came on i took it in.

Will the head gasket really go boom if it only got as bad as warning me of low pressure?? It's not like i ran it to the point where its like a bag of nails?

Thanks

Problem with the oil light is it doesnt come on when the danger is near, it comes on when the danger is present, as its a low pressure light it comes on when the pump cant pump oil around the engine. You may be lucky, you may not, you wont know for a while and then you will probably be thinking "bloody Fiats, nothing but trouble all the time....." If it had run like a bag of nails you would probably have lost the camshaft profile hardening and the big end main bearings.

Thanks for all your help. I've definately learnt my lesson!!! :(

Ok so I have the car on HP. The minimum payment is up after next month and I can give the car back and cancel the HP for £80 fee.

Should I do this and get rid now or keep it and in 3 years I've completely paid for it? I know you probably cant tell but what do you think?

Thats a personal finance question and one only you are well placed to make a call on.

I must admit, i don't check my oil (or anything else) that often.

I wouldn't expect to with a new car with modern warning indicators. And it's also serviced once a year. Isn't this why people pay the extra money and buy new cars instead of old bangers.

Our other car is a 9 year old Audi that i've had for 7 years and we've never lifted the bonnet on that. I simply rely on the computer to tell me what it needs. I know it's a completely different car to the Punto but this method never given me a problem. having said that, i never really abuse the cars either.

I know i'l prob get slated for saying this but i'm sure i'm not the only one that doesn't lift the bonnet from one week to the next.

I may start doing it now though. :)
