Technical Question Regarding GP Wiring Loom

Anyone got a picture of where the puddle lights go? I don't remember seeing a plate on the door card where they would be. My car is still in the bodyshop

search under the door card. mine has a special socket empty. i think you have it too, as fiat doesn't have 2 production line for it.

here's a pic of the space for the puddle lights, has anyone bought the actual fiat ones? i'm going to be making some LED strips myself, wondering how much the oem ones are

i couldn't get the door card off but i did unplug the pax door coupling and there are alot of contacts missing, seems the cables go to the door coupling from the body computer but then the loom inside the door itself doesn't contain the puddle lights wires, i rang fiat parts but they didn't have a clue what i was on about when i said i wanted to buy a wiring loom for a car that wasn't mine, and i had a "computer says no" incident, and said i'd have to come back with a reg that has them fitted

sooooo any fiat techs know how much it would be for a new loom for the door that has the puddle lights wires in it?

i've taken apart the coupling as well, the rubber seal around the plug that plugs into the coupling from the door just pulls off, so if i end up wiring them to the interior light, this is a good access point to the interior of the door for any wires

so tris you wiring up puddle lights and foot well lights? how are you planning on wiring them? so they just come on with the interior lights?

I've got some white LED strips for the footwells and LED festoons for the puddle lights (out of a mk1 Focus). I was then just going to run the wiring up the A pillar to the interior light.

Doing that i would get the theatre lighting that you get with the interior light aswell.

I need to order LED festoon bulbs for my interior light actually as well to match.

Think it cost me about £15 for that lot.

my friend i once used a led bulb and the light was dissapointing. it didn't illuminate much so i hooked back the original one. maybe you should reconsider using led for the interior light. not very bright. except it has like 40 leds on it.

sweet, i'm going for white led strips for the puddle lights and the same under the door handle, then some amber LED's in the foot well's + under the dash, then under the seats as well, and then a courtesy light for each of the back passengers with a switch back there

i managed to find out the exact colour of the OEM LED's on the dash, 605nm so i'm using these for accent lighting around the car linked to the side lights so will all be the same colour, but they also will all come on including the puddle and handle lights when the interior light gets turned on by the body computer, i.e. when you unlock the car, or turn the engine off, or open the door which i think will be pretty cool:slayer:

i'm also gonna replace the bulbs in the interior light with new LED's but i'm not going for the festoons that you can buy as these are only 3000mcd (LED brightness) where as i'm going to use a 11000mcd LED in each side and then probably 3 amber LED's in each side, so where the lense focus' the light on the passengers lap will be ice white, but outside of this, on the dash and doors the light being thrown will be amber if that makes sense

i had a blue LED one and it was PANTS, you could never see find anything!!, thats why i'm going with the the 11000mcd LED's they'll blow your socks off lol, it'll be like having a main beam attatched to my roof lol

I cant wait to see all this done, its gonna look class

Do the LED's dim then with the interior light? I didnt think they would, as to dim an LED, it is not a voltage change that is required but a frequency change in the current?

i presume you mean dim them with the setting on the body computer? no i won't be able to

or do you mean dim before they go off as the interior light does? but no they won't do this either lol, its the current that changes the brightness of LED rather than voltage in a normal bulb, which can be done with resistors, but i'm not bothering going down this route

What are you proposing to use for interior lights for the rear passengers just out of interest? I've thought about it but struggled to find actual covers (by this i mean cover over the bulb) that would look good. Unless i rob some from a beemer in a scrappy or something.

But, all this lighting, will it not put too much strain on the interior light circuit?

i'm planning on using SMD LED's for the rear lights, the puddle lights and the handle lights, there only 1.6mm by 0.8mm
slw0603_ultrahelle_weisse_smd_led_0603_180mcd_140_2.jpg

so i'm going to mount these along the edge of the rear sun roof in the roof trim in a line above each passenger, they'll barely be noticable

also all the LED's i'm using only draw 20mA each, which is tiny so i'm not worried about that,

however i'm thinking of only having the accent lighting come on with the side lights and just the handles and puddle lights with interior light(controlled from body computer) and then the accent lights with the interior light(manual), this way the handle lights won't turn on with the interior light if you just turn it on to find something, that would look daft going down the motor way and yours handles start lighting up lol

anyone any ideas on the body computer issue?

How do you get at the sidelight wiring? I'd like to do that actually...

I doubt its as simple as my mk2, new where everything was in that lol

i was gonna use the number plate light instead, its the blue and white wire coming out of the bottom connector on the body computer

this is for the live and then it can just go to earth somewhere

but i was going to run two wires to this wire and seperate the side lights and accent lights with a a relay, so taking the actual power for the accent lights from the 12v socket while the side lights are on,

can someone reprogram the body computer in order to read low power consumption so if you put led bulbs it would not read burnt bulb thus eliminating the need of a resistor?

you dont need to if you adding it to an existing circuit like Daniel (danny?) is planning to do, only if you replace one of the bulbs ie sidelights or numberplate bulbs...
